Deeply Gutted at 2 star review

I recently completed my 40th sit and was deeply saddened to receive a 2 star review. I have never had a score like this before.
Apparently I failed in every category and it hurts… I have always had good reviews so this was totally gobsmacking.

I have asked the HO to expand on the review privately so will wait and see what is said.
Just off loading a little but it is worrying for future applications
thanks for listening.

I am so sorry. I understand how low you must feel. I hope the homeowner can give you some insight and I hope you will find peace in knowing you are a good sitter and just move forward.

I also am very sorry this has happened. That review is more likely to call attention to them, not you.

Out of interest was it a less than 5 star sit from your perspective as well? Or was the review totally out of the blue? It’s hard not to be very upset - in your shoes & with your great track record I’d feel the same way.

How devastating. Why do people do it??? GRRRR

Three weeks ago, I completed my 50th celebratory sit and received a glowing review, just like the previous 49 ones. However, unlike the 49 previous reviews, I got (in retaliation for sending her 2 gentle reminders to review me) 4 stars overall and 3 stars for cleanliness and tidiness, even though I left the place exactly as I found it. Not one issue was mentioned in the review. I guess the honeymoon is over now.

I feel your pain. So terribly sorry for you. I am afraid it will take a while to get over it

If it seemed like a good sit to you, it may be a mistake, did they add any narrative to explain their low score?

Are you saying because of your review of the HO, they retaliated against you by give you a low rating review?

With the blind review system, how is that possible?

@sharondc
No, no. I am saying that I sent her two gentle reminders to review me. She did not like it

Oh, that was rude of the HO. Sending reminders to the HO to give you a review has no bearing on how you took care of the pet(s) / home.

smh

@fyfie I’m a little confused because I can’t see a bad review on your profile anywhere. Your last sit is 5* with coco the kitten.

Your profile is exemplary of a high quality sitter

I feel your pain. Unfortunately it’s a numbers game, the more you sit the more likely (at some point) to hit a snag. We are also dealing with the vagaries of interacting with other humans who can have a “bad hair day” and take it out on the next audience to listen.

You were able to find it? I gave up looking after about the 10th Fiona from Edinburgh

That was also my first thought. Perhaps her mouse (or finger) malfunctioned and flung. 2 stars all the way must be pretty unusual

I agree it could be a system error -

I know that whenever challenged about this THS say it’s not possible and it’s user error .

However I have seen a sitter’s profile where amongst all their dozens of 5 star reviews is an overall zero stars review ( which shouldn’t be possible) all the categories are 5 star ….

What is worse is that the sitter likely has no idea that this glitch has bought their overall star rating down to 4 stars .

Since none of us get to see how our profile looks when someone is searching for a sitter - this sitter will be none the wiser .

Hi @ChristineB
My review on the sit was 5 star and yes the low stars were totally out of the blue.
I’m still processing it and will reply to the review once I have constructed a non retaliatory response, then I will draw a line and move onwards and upwards :grinning:

I feel for you @fyfie. Have you heard back from the HO to your private message? I would be waiting for that before responding to the review. Like @Enjaybee, if I have the right person, your last sit showing is for the one day in March where it was 5* for the kitten. Maybe this isn’t you??

That was taking a risk, nagging the HO!

I have done that only once, I think, when I had only three reviews. I never got one for my fourth sit.

Two gentle reminders are not classed as “nagging” @pietkuip. It’s simply reminding them. Reviews are currency and there’s a time limit. It’s fair of @anon47943759 to chase the HO.

I sent a friendly reminder to a HO about the review as the deadline was almost up
We then got a 5 star review but it was a one liner and not as gushing as the ones for previous sitters …

For the next sit I didn’t send a reminder ( not wanting to nag ) and the HO missed the deadline !!. An experience HO on THS but said they had no idea about the new deadline … so I regretted not sending a reminder that time ( I ask for an external review instead which they happily did )

This is it. The new hosts (and I’ve had a few of those lately) do not have a clue about reviews, but even the old ones might not know about the new rules, and some don´t. I didn’t nag anybody; I just tried, in a very polite and gentle way, to ask them if they knew about the new review rules and the two-week window. No big deal, I thought. Well, I was wrong.
