This is now a thing apparently.
Column in the Sunday Times Style Magazine today.
If THS added this service, you would no longer see 0 application on most sits these days.
Some people just have too much $$$$.

Except for the inevitable sense of entitlement rampant amongst this crowd, Iâm afraidâŚ
OMG @BonnyinBrighton, thatâs a fantastic news article. Priceless ![]()
âFor families who need someone to live in while they travel, rates of US$500 to $800 a day are not uncommonâ.
âadvertised for a live-in dog nanny that paid GBP 100,000 a yearâ
Two reflections
- we need to signup with the agency

- perhaps a useful reframing for pet parents - weâve spoken with, and walked away from, lots of them - that look down on housesitters on the basis that they are lucky to receive âfree accommodationâ
Well, to be fair, thatâs a salary and youâre then an employee. Do you think someone who can pay that salary will think itâs an exchange and allow holidays and sightseeing? Also, you would have to be local and references for that type of job. Probably more training and grooming involved than most THS sitters would do, and driving the dog around all day. And really, sitters demanding salad spinners and checking expiration dates on spices, like THS sitters do? Space in the fridge for your food? Ha. Space in the cupboard? Double ha. Really most THS sitters would fail at this job on day one.
Itâs a cute article but thatâs a bit like saying I followed a recipe to make scrambled eggs, so now I can apply to be a chef at a 5 star restaurant.
I definitely would hang up on a sitter referencing this, so itâs not a useful âreframingâ at all. Apples and Oranges.
Hmm but do you own a yacht? ![]()
Itâs discriminatory. Where are the paid, full-time cat-sitting positions?
I imagine that many animals adopted during covid have become very needy now that they arenât getting the 24/7 attention. So, if youâve got money, get them real staff. Thing is, wonât these animals bond with the care-giver?
Well, people hire nannies for their human children and donât worry about that, either.
Yes, very true. Then again, I think some children benefit from not having their parents as their primary care-givers.
Probably likewise for some pets. And at least if thereâs a pet nanny, they presumably wonât be neglected.
We had a live in nanny (she was very strict about what sheâd do/not do), hubby was working abroad and I did weird shiftsâŚ. tbh what I really needed at the time was to hire a WIFE!
