Dog Sitters, short notice?

Hi.
I have signed back up the house sitters forum.
My problem is that I can’t book too far ahead due to a number of health issues. Such as mild MS, Cardiomyopathy, spinal problems affecting my left leg and finally have had a number of minor seizures.
If we go away it would be with relative short notice.
What would be my chances of finding someone?
Cheers
Michael

Hi @Charli a pleasant home with a nice dog and a straightforward routine means you should be fine.

Did a lovely 3 day sit last month that we only applied to and organised 2 days before and we were flying internationally, it ended up being a great little layover.

There are lots of sitters all over looking for different things - someone might be passing through on a road trip or have a couple of days free and want a little escape from their own house. Maybe they have family down the road and can visit friends whilst sitting for you - you really just never know.

I wouldn’t worry about it needing to be too far in advance as long as when you get an application, get back to them straight away and get things organised that same day if possible.

All the best

Hi Charli,

The real answer is it depends.

The biggest factors imo would be:

  1. how easy is your sit (i.e. how easy is it to take care of your pets) AND
  2. how desirable is your location?

If you have a very hot location, you will absolutely be forgiven for a lot of things and get applications quickly. And if your pet is very easy to care for and can be left alone without issue, etc., that also makes it very easy for HS to say yes.

Ofc everything else being strong also helps (Clean and inviting home, amenities, good profile and description, etc.)

I think your location is a big factor. I live in Vancouver and sits there get snapped up quite quickly as I think they do in most major cities. As bakindoki mentioned, it also depends on how easy your pets are to take care of. Accessible transportation is also a factor to consider. Having said that, there is a sit for everyone. Some sitters lean towards sits in the city and others prefer more rural sits. Best of luck!
