Has anyone ever been on an absolutely dreamy sit- one that surpasses all your expectations and where you totally fall in love with the pet, bond with the HOs straight away, discover that how they like to live is totally how you live at home even down to arranging drawers/cupboards etc so that everything feels naturally where it should be…..is this a ‘one off’? We’re on our 6th THS sit and may have now been ruined for all future sits as these HOs have raised the bar to where we’d like it to be for EVERY sit Please can somebody pinch me and awaken me from this dream
a ‘match’ that’s perfect for us and hopefully them too.
Lovely sentiment. Whilst I would love to pinch you my wife may beat me up.
I had one sit where the hosts lived in the exact type of home I’d own, near where I previously lived. I always adore the pets, and the hosts were terrific and their home was beautiful and comfortable, but I didn’t like the sit best. It was too similar to how I live. One of the hosts even used to do similar work, before retiring.
My two absolute favorite sits have been ones where they lived differently from me, but I enjoyed it so much that those sits are among the few I’ve repeated — I don’t usually accept repeats.
I like sits that live differently from me, that’s why I travel to experience new things. I like breeds of dogs and cats I never had to see their personalities.
It’s fun being in a house where the furniture is completely different from what I would choose. I like seeing furniture that may be arranged differently from mine to get some kool ideas. Like seeing kitchen gadgets I don’t have to experience them. Like seeing homes in colors I never thought would work but does. Even like seeing homes in areas I would never gravitate to and finding the interesting things about it.
Our dream sit (which we are going back to for the third time tomorrow ) is a house that the owners thoughtfully designed and built themselves . It is totally unique ( we have stayed in some other self build homes ) and completely different to any property that we have ever lived in . The property location on the river Thames is also like nowhere we have ever lived .
We love returning to it because it’s so different to our “usual” lives .
My perfect sit is right here and now. It’s a modern house but in a quaint village with an old pub and a Saxon Church, sheep and lambs in the fields and a well stocked village shop. Theres a Toddler’s group meeting a Local History meeting a Hub in the pub coffee morning on a Tuesday, bring a dog! There’s a village hall and a charming village school. Trains and buses pass by, taking one to Oxford and Banbury. A river, a canal and a Roman road are all present. The internet has made this sitter for ten days feel instantly welcomed. The dogs sleep in and jump into bed, having been given some last minute treats. It’s so civilized here and yes many of the cars are electric and environmentally friendly choices are made by the community. Walks are from the door past old barns and other farm buildings. The whole place is loved and protected and celebrated with special events: a Carribean evening, a gardener’s Club party, there are allotments here and people know about gardening and countryside ways. Some have lived here 50 years, some longer. There’s a modern estate near the train station for a new influx of villagers.
I’ve been to a coffee morning in the Methodist Church this morning with lots of friendly people to chat to. On Saturday there’s a car pool so walkers in the village can try somewhere new for free.
Life is good. I saw a deer close up yesterday and the dogs in my care are happy, well exercised companions.
It’s the first time the Homeowners have tried THS services and they want to arrange their holiday dates around my availability. What could be better than that?
This is a little piece of heaven on earth.
