Dubai Dubai dubai

I am in the UK.

I want to be near rich people in Dubai in the hopes of being like them.

What’s it like house sitting in Dubai?

Hi @Wealthyandretired

Welcome to the forum.

I haven’t been myself, but it looks like an incredibly opulent location. Right now, we have opportunities to sit, in Dubai - check them out here.

We have thousands of members on our forum, no doubt one of our members has visited (or sat) in Dubai and can offer a little more insight into what it is like.

Welcome to forum @Wealthyandretired !

I don’t think one can be like rich people by being near them, and it doesn’t necessarily show that you are rich. Rich people get rich by saving, not spending. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Sits I have seen in that region would many times be in the hottest period, July/ August with temperatures 40+. Hosts in Asia are almost without exception people from Europe/ Americas that work there, in my experience. Sits are often on the shorter side, 1-2 weeks (probably because they work a lot) ofc with some exceptions. I would think those sits are popular, and a sitter would probably need several stellar reviews to be selected.

Hope you find your dream sit!

Hi @Wealthyandretired,

I read about being the average of the five people you spend the most time with!
I’m not sure how effective the theory is when you are house/petsitting for them, lol. In my case, I’m closer to becoming a  than getting rich I guess…

There are several options in Dubai, @Garfield makes a good point. Most sits in Dubai happen when the homeowners escape the extreme heat, but it’s still worth getting to know the city, and honestly, you don’t really feel the heat when you’re indoors. Definitely worth giving it a try!

Sorry, you don’t get rich by osmosis. Otherwise I would hang around people who can eat fattening foods and not gain weight, ha. Never been there but I hope you get to go and fulfill your dream of this travel. Pop back when you return and let us know what you thought. Happy Travels!

The rich people in Dubai typically have servants and other types of employed help. Sits there tend to be with expatriates who are working there. They’re not usually rich, gauging from the sits posted. Plus, you’re not likely to be spending much time with hosts.

This is exactly how you become rich . Good luck. P.S. if a weird looking guy invites you into his van offering candy, don’t get in

The nearest I’ll get to Dubai is watching the channel 4 series ‘Dubai: buying the dream’. I have no interest in going there. I doubt you’d get near the rich people as they stick to their own

The wealth in Dubai tends to originate from oil, then reinvesting those revenues. Then that’s spread among families / inherited. It’s unlikely that would rub off on you, and it’s “It takes money to make money” and “It’s who you know” more often than not there.

I know some folks who’ve worked there for or with the wealthy, but they’re educated and experienced professionals who are useful for making money. They’re valued for that.

If you did happen to sit for wealthy people there (seems unlikely, because they can easily afford help), it’s likely you’d be treated as a servant, not someone to pass on business opportunities or knowledge to. There’s a huge imported working class in Dubai who serve the wealthy, do blue-collar labor, work in retail, hospitality, services, etc.

Also the process is also a potential whopping 30 years! How long does it take to get UAE citizenship?
It is based on the citizenship type. Citizenship by marriage can take 7 to 10 years, while citizenship by naturalization may take up to 30 years.

Minimum. One can apply first after 30 years of uninterrupted residency

@Wealthyandretired it’s all about the access and the proximity to the wealthy. If you don’t have the proximity befriend someone who can give you access . I say get a hospitality level tix to Formula 1 in Abu Dhabi in December. The wealthiest will be in attendance. Dress well, act a tad bit snooty and you’ll hobnobbing with them before you know it.

I’ll be cat sitting in downtown Dubai in August in a flat that’s a stone’s throw away from the Burj Khalifa.

You could always go and sit in Gail’s for an hour and save your flight cost? (UK reference!)

I think if you are middle aged it’s too late. In the first episode there is an attractive Caucasian female estate agent in her mid 20s and the two males called her old.

If any has joined the UK military and thought it was a fantastic way to earn life changing transferable skills and money that they can afford to go to Dubai let me know otherwise I think it’s too late for me.

Can an UK citizen move to Dubai?
AI Overview
Yes, a UK citizen can move to Dubai. They will need to obtain the appropriate visa, typically a work or residence visa, and this often involves having a job offer in Dubai.
Here’s a breakdown of the process:
Visa Requirements: UK citizens need a visa to live and work in Dubai.
Employment: The most common route is through an employer who will sponsor the individual for a work permit and residency visa.
Other Visa Options: While employment is common, other options like remote work visas or investment-based visas are also available.
Sponsorship: Generally, a Dubai-based employer or company will sponsor the visa.
Digital Nomad Visa: Dubai offers a Remote Working Visa Scheme, allowing individuals to live and work in Dubai while maintaining their jobs elsewhere.
Family Relocation: If moving with family, the visa requirements and process may vary, potentially requiring a minimum salary and proof of accommodation.
Tax Implications: While there’s no income tax in Dubai on salaries, UK citizens may still be subject to UK tax laws if they return to the UK, especially for retirement, according to Property Finder.

When I look at all that architecture I think of fossil fuels and precious minerals extraction and Africa being cheated. It’s actually really good how at least one billionaire has decided to provide proper compensation to the country that because they have no militia gets heavily stolen from.

I would rather work as the working class in Dubai then in the UK because the crime rates in Dubai are significantly lower

The question was about citizenship and not residency.

Most people can move to Dubai (be residents of Dubai) after having obtained some sort of visa. But only the ones who have continuously resided in Dubai for a minimum of 30 years (along tons of other requirements) can apply for citizenship.
