We recently had a sit in a town where we once lived. Upon application the pet parent was told that we applied for this sit partially based on that. This was a kitten so no walking involved but upon her review she said mentioned that we seemed to be more interested in socializing than playing with her cat. She had a RING CHIME on her porch so that was how we were being monitored-didn’t see any indoor cameras. I felt this was an unfair review. Has anyone else experienced this?
Annoyed I expect. Seems sneaky. A fair, factual, non emotional response is probably the best way to handle it. Definitely feels a bit underhand (& it can only be based on your coming and goings). Can you confidently reply “we played with Bob every day for X hours as the host asked in her listing.” Or similar. So address the play time thing but don’t get drawn into the how much you went out or that you know she monitored you. Maybe add a “our thanks to X for welcoming us back into our old town & community” type mention as she did know it was your old stomping ground. Be the bigger person. Were there any red flags in the listing that it was it a high maintenance kitten? #playtheupperhand
It is not an interview. An interview implies a job which implies a wage. If that is your perception of this platform, perhaps it’s not the right place for you.
I also don’t like the term interview as I feel it should be a mutual discussion.
However THS do call it an interview…which is maybe why hosts refer to it that way .
@Silversitters Out of curiosity, have you found a similar blog on Questions to Ask A Pet Owner?? I did start looking but gave up!
Oh man… sitters are just being represented as animal loving free labor.
Same - I walk dogs via Rover and also do dog sits, most have cameras in the home nowadays & a few dogs have the tracker collars. I’m so used to it that I just ignore them now. If people are so adamant about no cameras in a communal space like a living room, kinda makes you wonder what they have to hide.
A living room in a private home is not a communal space.
What do I have to hide from a camera in the living room? What I look like in my pajamas. How I choose to spend my PRIVATE time. How early I go to bed. What TV shows I watch. If a homeowner is that suspicious, get a family member to sit. Someone else’s paranoia is not permission to intrude on my privacy. I agreed to care for your pet; not to be your reality show.
Customers? When I agree to a sit, I enter a partnership with the HO where I provide something (pet and home care) and they provide something (accommodations). There is no customer in this scenario.
Well said @systaran .
I had to remind myself what I wrote as it was in March this year.
Having read your new thread titled House Rules, your advise for me to Wake Up does not warrant my response
Turned out to be a very cute although expensive breed. So cute but made me a little nervous after discovered might be a $3000 breed. No issues with kitten as never outside but owner made many assumptions based on her door chime which she could see on phone. And we didn’t always both leave!!
