Why several HO leaves the house with empty bathroom products or kitchen products and very proudly tell you , pls use anything and everything.
I have several sits and several have same problem.
Help
I’ve only ever had that issue once. My last sit was from a first time HO and they barely left me anything. Dish soap was low, detergent low and only one toilet paper roll
Hi @Grandma will you be mentioning this in your review of the HO? With regards to bathroom products, do you mean cleaning products or personal use products? If the latter, I wouldn’t expect anyone to supply that for me. As for kitchen products, I’ve come across this once before. I think it was an oversight rather than a deliberate act and as it was a long sit I didn’t mind purchasing stuff for my own use. People get busy and simply forget.
I feel this forum is more about complaining rather than offering solutions. A solution could be to come readily equipped with your own supplies in travel pack form to use in case there is none. Or. Contact the HO to have said supplies delivered. Or. Purchase necessary items yourself and don’t say anything at all. Complaining is easy, finding solutions and offering that instead is more useful.
Very well put. I am talking products belonging to the house. Experience, I have my own soap, shampoo and everything. I even have single use kitchen papers , dishwashing soap and some other products that I carry traveling.
But not bathroom cleaner, shower soap or kitchen sink cleaner.
I won’t mention in reviews. Just was curious.
Thanks I am venting. Got frustrated today. Doing a sit in Singapore.
I’ve only had it happen once, so now we carry extra cleaning products with us. Most have had a plentiful supply in our experience in the UK.
There’s probably a cupboard full of cleaning things somewhere in the house. Ask the hosts.
I have bought cleaning products for sits we have done and left them when we leave. It’s a fact if life. People get busy and forget. In the UK a kitchen spray cleaner can be less than 99p. Ditto for bathroom products. A bottle of bleach less than 40p. Yes, it’s inconvenient but not life threatening.
My cleaning gripe is please empty the vacuum cleaner bag before you leave. I don’t know how many days of my life I have wasted trying to figure out some of these high tech machines!
Haha
Now I ask to do video, how tu use, empty. Dyson is so complicated.
Once you work it out, they are an amazing piece of equipment. I used one on a housesit and promptly purchase one on my return home I was so impressed with its performance. Haven’t looked back.
If it’s cleaning products and things like that I’d message them and ask where they store their products as all of the bottles you’ve found are empty. Hopefully they’ll either tell you or offer to reimburse you for what you buy.
Yes I understand but something about me. I am a real solo traveler. The whole world. This happened today in Singapore. Do you want me to take some pictures of prices here.
Is always buy products and leave it.
It could be also that they have a cleaning service which brings their own products, so that they usually don’t need it. Have myself lived in a full service apartment where the cleaners brought all their stuff.
Just a neutral question I think would be alright if it is a matter of cleaning products for the home/ pet. And just see what the answer is.
Why would I need you to take pictures of prices? If you don’t want to buy the products then tell them to buy them and have them sent to you. I’m sure there are delivery services in Singapore. Things happen, people forget or run out of things. It’s not a problem unless you turn it into one. So your choices are buy them with your own money or ask the HO to buy them for you. But it’s not really something to be upset about, IMO. I’m also a solo traveler. Going on 16 years of full time travel. That doesn’t impact my opinion…
As it’s Singapore @Grandma they could have a maid service normally and they bring their own cleaning supplies (worked like that in the Middle East) which might be why you can’t find any supplies…definitely message the HO and ask. #cleanisascleandoes
If you want delivery of such products in Singapore, the Grab app usually works super quickly.
If I couldn’t find such supplies, I’d just buy them. Otherwise, just ask the hosts about supplies and let them volunteer payment. If they don’t, just ask for repayment.
If you want to keep things tight, you could msg something like: I’d like to leave your place clean, but have found cleaner bottles empty. Would you like for me to pick some up? If so, my Venmo account info is XX (or whatever payments accounts you use).
If you do that, that puts the onus on them.
I agree with you! That is annoying! If the Owners were having a friend stay at their home to watch their pets, wouldn’t they make sure there was enough dish soap, hand soap, laundry detergent, and cleaning products available?
This has happened to us too. We just buy the products and move on, but I find it to be disrespectful. If we did not buy and leave products for them, they would have none on return (for example, dish soap).
It’s crazy how many ppl keep bottles that are fully finished. I see it a lot in my business, house cleaning. I suppose if they were done & desperate that they could get one little bit out of it with water, but … lol
Oh my goodness
Maddening I’m sure
It’s pretty rare I encounter sits where there aren’t sufficient amounts of supplies to clean properly, and even in those cases, there was usually enough left of at least one product that I could use to clean the different things I needed to clean.
When you mention being annoyed by their offer to ‘use anything and everything’ but then most things are empty or almost empty, I assume you are referring to things like personal care products, basic kitchen staples and the like.
And while it is nice to have those things offered, they are in no way expected. People vary in how much food and the like they keep on hand depending on their shopping habits, whether they cook a lot at home, etc…
Even before I was traveling full time and moving around a lot, my husband and I never shopped for more than a week’s worth of groceries at once so we would not be the type to have an overflowing pantry or a fridge full of food. We aren’t big foodies or cooks so no racks full of spice jars, etc…
If you are frequently encountering this problem with the cleaning products especially, and it is something about which you are concerned, you could let them know at some point the importance of having these products on hand so you can clean the house properly, whether it is during the pre-confirmation chat or at some point before you arrive there.
As for the other stuff, those are things I wouldn’t bring up since I don’t expect these items to be provided.
I love that idea. I will do.
Thanks
