Are owners required to include photos of the home exterior? I amConsidering a sit, but there are no photos of the home exterior (front entry, etc). Only of the exterior amenities looking out away from the home. This makes me uneasy. I would also like to see photos of the street scene.
I am a homeowner and I don’t have photos of the exterior of my house. The listings on THS are visible to anyone, not just members. I don’t want someone being able to identify my house from the description and photos. I would be happy to share an exterior photo with any applicant who asked for it.
My listing description is detailed enough (across the street from a store that is easy to find online) so anyone who wanted a street or satellite view could find it.

There are lots of owners on THS who prefer not to place the front of their home, or their street on THS. Their images are then in the public domain, and THS can do whatever they wish with it, so it’s totally understandable why some prefer not to. Although I’d imagine that those with a front image have a higher chance of getting applicants.
If you get accepted for a sit, you can ask for their address before accepting. Or if it’s complete non-starter for you, then just say at the end of your application, “If you feel I may be suitable, could you let me have your postcode/zipcode” and finish it with something nice. That way you aren’t asking them to reveal their whole address to you at the application stage, you’re simply asking for an indication of where they are.
Just wanted to point out that zipcodes in the US cover large areas, they aren’t like postcodes in the UK. Many towns/smaller cities have one zipcode for the entire town and even in large cities, the zipcode only narrows it down to the neighborhood (and often multiple neighborhoods are in the same zipcode). It would be better to ask for the nearest major intersection or a landmark.

I mentioned this in a previous thread, the average # of homes per UK post code is 15. It can range from a single large building to up to 100 properties. Much more detailed than zip codes in the US and postal codes in other countries.
So a UK host gave us her post code. Fine, I knew the suburb anyway (had to ask for street address though). But it all got me thinking so I decided a quick google, Sw19 35,742 dwellings. I’m fascinated by the idea that the average is 15
SW19 is only half of the postcode, or a fairly large area. There follow a number and pair of letters that provide more granular detail. Eg. SW19 4DJ
We actually have zip+4 in the US although it is mainly used by commercial/bulk mailers. Google ai reports “The last four digits pinpoint a small area like one side of a street, a single block, an apartment complex, or one large office building floor.”

There are online sites where you can punch in a ZIP code (and the four additional digits) and it will tell you what that (combo) covers specifically. (Like mine covers about 100 households.) And you can use it for orders, mailing stuff, etc. That way, your stuff is less likely to get lost, say if your street name is similar to another/others.
I agree with this. We do prefer to have some idea of the type of property we’d be staying in (it’s not always apparent from internal pics).
I like a front, exterior photo of the house as that is what the host is offering in exchange for pet care and home security.
It also allows for recognition of the property in most cases so sitters knock at the right door.

Has this changed? I thought it used to be more specific - lounge, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen (I.e. rooms to be used by the sitters).
