Fake posted housesits?

Is it possible someone would post a fake sitting job? I messaged with an owner a few times and we agreed on dates. He said he would be in touch later that week so we could speak but I haven’t heard from him and he isn’t responding to my messages. Could it be fake? Now when I look at the photos they look like something from a real estate listing. Could it be fake??

Welcome @KBF
I’m doubtful a HO would pay to post fake sits. Unfortunately what happens sometimes on THS is the HO finds alternative pet sitting arrangements or cancels their trip but forget to update sitting applicants. This is annoying I know.

Many homeowners use realty photos. Likely because their home looked at its best. That doesn’t mean it is a fake housesit.

I have seen quite a number of listing that have use real estate photos . Not fake listings but maybe not an accurate reflection of how the home looks currently or will look when the sitter arrives .

If I wanted to apply for a sit like this I would carefully read all previous reviews and schedule a video call / tour before agreeing to the sit .

If you are unsure, sit that opportunity out and wait until they have reviews… Another idea is to ask THS.

Did you actually accept the sit? Then if you want to cancel it’s a little more involved than just saying “changed my mind”… and while anything could happen – family emergencies, etc., a HO who just isn’t communicating might also be one you might want to pass on. Apply for something else.

It’s possible, but seems far fetched. Much more likely, they’ve flaked or something has happened, like maybe an accident or illness.

Thanks, that makes sense they would use the professional realty photos. Thank you!
