I have favorited many potential sits. As soon as I hear the ping of one of these favourited sits indicating the sit has been posted I immediately open the page but always it says either reviewing applications or the sit is no longer available. How is this possible. ?

Because there is a delay from the host publish and to the notification reach you - for sits that thousands of sitters are interested in and might have favorited.
Take also into account sitters that are scrolling the location at publishing-time. It happened to me that I was scrolling :location: and a sit turned up, I immediately applied and a minute or two later I got the notification for the sit.
(I have a rough draft in my files I can copy-paste - the info on me is usually pretty much the same…

Only 5 applications are allowed, then the sit is paused by THS. Popular sits go almost immediately.
This topic has been discussed so much on the forum. While I understand that everyone wants to post their question right away, I also find it quite respectful to use the search function first, especially since thread suggestions already appear when creating a new topic.
