Feedback on new ‘5 applications and freeze’ system?

Unfortunately that won’t work for us as i need to talk about it first with my husband and then check with our cat sitter to see if the dates work for them both. I wish it was simple.

It could still work, I think. Keep a tab open on your browser, don’t let the computer sleep. I don’t know exactly what would count as “open”. I always do this kind of thing from a laptop computer. I believe that this should work for many hours (but I have heard here in the forum that it does not always work - there is still the risk that effort could get wasted).

I understand the reason for setting a maximum number of applications allowed to be sent to a pet owner.

However I think having the number pre determined by the platform is somewhat over the top, as we are all adults each person may have a different tolerance level for the max number of applications they would like to receive which in many cases may be greater than 5.

By all means set the minimum number ( the default value to 5 ) however allow a pet owner to decide for themselves what their limit is if they want it to be above five.

Technically that means creating a new db table that only needs 2 columns ownwer_id and ma_applicafion_limit

Then have existing code that determines if the applications recorded is 5 read the value from the table above to determine what the max applications is for a focus. Pwt owner.

You are right in all ways. Very long threads are about this subject.
I also gave product team an IT solution smth like this.

But you’re better off talking to a dog, they give at least some acknowledgement back.

THS will just not reply on these kind of solutions because it’s a rule what benefits THS.
No benefits for the pets, owners or sitters are the prio nr 1 here.

It is the money what drives the rules here.
Unfortunately…

I have Platform with clearly significant membership internationally there are numerous areas of refinement, and even a couple of amendments that would actually promote the platform automatically, and if that was the focus, the platform would move from fantastic to be exceptional and without pier

It used to be fun and enjoyable to have the chance to send an application to ANY petsit. Now it’s so frustrating and depressing to see the vast majority already closed for 5 reviews. They say they are listening to us, but they clearly are not. It is just so hard to believe they would keep this policy. I want to hear from the person who made this rule and the honest reason why they are keeping this policy and answer our questions that we may have. Or have a survey sent to all subscribers and publish the results for us to read. Is this asking too much?? No it is not. By ignoring us they are assuming we will just give up. I hope that does not happen. I lose sleep over this-literally and figuratively. Please stop ignoring us.

The idea of limiting the number of applications put on, receives clearly has merits and addresses an issue. Possibly many pet sitters have not experienced the drain on some pit owners receiving over 50 Pet Sit applications and simply ignore having to possibly ignore many of them due time constraints can be clearly, I stressful situation .

Having a liver resolved this problem, my suggestion has been to have the limit functionality, but give the Pet owner the freedom to choose what their level of limit will be rather than dictator. Everybody is an acceptable level five as the minimum, and anyone who wants to have more than five I have the freedom to sit the road That solution satisfies everybody. The owner now doesn’t have to take 50 they can sit with delivered is and the pet sitter will ideally have more than five in many cases.

Sometimes I wonder if the 5 application rule has a goal of driving traffic to the app/website. Perhaps it increases the number of “touches” thus making THS more valuable?

I am not in IT but imagine this is part of the reasoning. Would love to hear others’ thoughts.

Agree @SafePaws ! We just had open listing (actually reviewing now), and I was so surprised how quickly we hit the 5 applicant limit this time. In minutes.

We did find two really good options in the first 24 hours, but I did have to decline applications and unpause the listing three-four times during that time. Super annoying! And I’m sure there are many HO’s who receive way more applications than we do.

I would love to have an option to have my listing open for 24 hours or so. It would be so much easier.

@PVGemini Hi being in IT I can assure you your theory is not applicable as website stats are based on what’s called unique visits not all visits so that when a person has visited r reside multiple times in a day only the unique visits are counted.

The reason as outlined above would be to remove the drama owners have of being inundated with application.

As I mentioned the win win solutions is to keep the new system but tweet it so owners are above to set a value limit of above 5 if they wish to

@CatsAndDog hi not sure about a time limit given the demand in application that may or ma t it occur. You may get 100 in 24 hrs or only 10+- depending on time of day your submit, length ot stay, time of year just to name a few

Quantifying if by allowing owners to set their own max application limit removes all those variables mentioned above compared to a time limit solution

Thats’s true, @SafePaws . I’d still prefer the time limit, but I know it wouldn’t suite all. I like the idea of people from all timezones having an eaqual opportunity to apply. But of course that could be achieved also by selecting a large enough number of received applications.

I hate the 5 rule system.
I get an alert and go to it immediately and find that they are reviewing.
I am missing so many sits and find myself applying for sits that do not entirely meet my needs in terms of area etc but worried that I won’t get a sit at all if I don’t.
It’s a dreadful system which I wish would change.

Hi @pietkuip
I am always aware of your advice and follow it each time I apply.
I have just done this , clicked on the dates and it immediately said I had applied. I had not even begin to start my application.
I had to send a quick message to the HO saying I was writing an application but would need a few minutes.
Then I sent my application,
Has anyone else had this happen as I am wondering if the system has changed.

I have just tested (in the web interface, twice): I clicked the dates box, and nothing happened. The “send application” button was a bit pale-green, became green when I entered characters in the text box.

So to me it seems that things are still as usual. (I did sign up for this beta test of a new system for messages and applications but that has not started yet I think.)

I do as @pietkuip mentioned and it’s still working for me, as previously. And I haven’t signed up for beta testing, as he has.

Thanks @pietkuip and @Maggie8K
It must have been on of these “glitches” I can’t recall what colour it was.
I can’t test it as I may end up applying for something I don’t want!

Agree, THS really swung and missed on this. Hopefully they make an adjustment

I like the 5 applications rule
Rather 5 applications then 60!
