Finding dates that work for you

Hello,
I am new to the house sitting app, though i have done many pet and house sittings.

I decided to use it as it would be a great way to stay somewhere and have a different experience when i get to New York. I am thinking also (if it works out) taking a few days in Boston.
I will be there in october from 2nd to 24th. I would love to move around if possible , so not stay in the same place in New york. But i guess it would be more relaxing if you dont know the city to stay in one part of New york. Either way i am relaxed about it.

I have been checking my app often. Now, i know how it works.
But is there any way you can put only days you are available and looking for house and pet sitting and is there some way you can get a notification when there are places available on does days.
I dont like using my phone at work and looking at it all the time just to make sure i dont miss any new places that are advertised? Thank you. Tasha

Hi Tasha
You can create a search for sits in a specific place for a specific date range and receive notifications when something that fits the criteria gets posted, though I am not sure if this option is available any longer for the most basic sitter plan. A couple of things to keep in mind since you are looking to go to a very popular spot:

–The notifications are supposed to be in ‘real time’ but they often are not, meaning you may not get notified as soon as the listing gets posted. Hosts can only receive 5 applications before the listing goes into ‘reviewing’ status, meaning a sit may already be closed off to applications by time you see the notification.

The good news is many hosts often need to repost their listing again at least once as they may not find suitable applicants right away.

Relying strictly on the notifications may not be a good strategy and checking the sit more frequently will be important.

–If you want to sit in one particular area for very specific dates, you have to plan for the possibility of not being able to find sits to fill the whole time perfectly. And this would mean having to pay for accommodation for these unscheduled days. If your plan is to try and book all your sits before you get there, and you know ahead of time you will have gaps and the costs, then you are all good.

–Not sure if you are familiar with the general area, but there are many sits available in NJ and CT that will give you easy access to NYC such as Jersey City. So if you are having trouble finding sits in NYC or you do land some and have some gaps, they could be good options.

@TashaN NY get snapped up quickly . So keep in mind the time zones when looking for a new listing . For example if you are in London and looking at the site before you start work at 8am - it’s 3 am in NYC so less likely that anyone will be posting a sit at that time .

Amazing, thank you so much for the info. I have never been to New York but have basic ideas about it. It does not have to be central. I have booked the first two nights in accommodation just to be on the safe side. I am asking people that have friends and families in New york for ideas and if they have a room, bed or someone willing to rent it for a few days. So i dont relay just on house sitting. I will look into filling the days that i have no accommodation in NY to stay in boston.
Thank you again
