Finding people interested in house sitting in my area

The house sitter I had in January had a great time here and I’m sure there are more people like him out there. I’ve also got a house sitter sorted for August/Sept.

The plant based food requirement isn’t negotiable - it’s hypocritical of someone to say they love and want to cuddle pets but half an hour later they’re sticking a knife into a lamb or a calf. Smoking on my property isn’t acceptable - the smell sticks to clothes and would linger in my home. As I’ve explained multiple times (and the blog to which I posted the link earlier today clearly explains why visitors need their own transport) I need my car in order to go away on my trip. I can’t imagine someone who’s going to be in NZ for up to 12 months expecting to borrow multiple cars in order to get around the country.

No problem, just sharing thoughts, best of luck to you @Working_Class! Do note though, that it is entirely normal (having spent two separate 9 month trips in your lovely country), for sitters to borrow multiple cars from owners as they house sit around the country. It’s common practice and really helps as your public transport options are so limited in the sticks.

I live by myself and my car is my only form of transport. I don’t have a spare vehicle that I can make available to anyone

Also a lot of work for a single sitter, who is meant to arrive several days early for overlap!

I would suggest that you consider having the sitter drive you to the airport and then pick you up. That way they could have use of the car. It would make your sit more attractive. However, I have a hunch you will shoot this down too.

Hi @Working_Class … there has been much good feedback from my perspective on this thread.

It seems the thread has gone off topic but not sure what a moderator (@Jenny ) may say…

From your OP:

Threads don’t get closed but if you feel you’ve gotten what you need from the thread, you are not obligated to respond to any further posts.

Hi @HelloOutThere

Thanks for the tag, I appreciate having the chance to look this discussion over.

As mentioned in my post about not closing discussions, there will sometimes be a situation where Carla or I would choose to close things down, and this is one of those.

The point of keeping discussions open wherever possible is to encourage future discussion (amongst other things!) but after reading through this discussion I don’t think that this is one of them. I think that enough productive feedback has been given now, and I’m concerned that some of the expressed differences of opinion might lead to the discussion taking a turn for the worse.

I hope that closing this thread doesn’t come across as contradictory, it’s a good example of the kind of thread that we’d prefer to close, and I appreciate you bearing our new policy around posts in mind!

Thanks everyone for popping on to give your advice and support. Nobody’s on the naughty step for this, I just think this discussion has run its course.

Jenny
