It’s incredible how one sit for a friend’s friend led you to discover a whole new world and eventually becoming full-time sitters. It’s wonderful to hear that you’ve been enjoying it since 2019 and have found so much fulfillment in this lifestyle. Gives me hope for my own journey with my daughter!
Congratulations
on your search for a new home in Wales. Sounds like a dream!!! It’s great that you have a clear understanding of when it will be time to stop, but for now, it seems like you’re still passionate and excited about this lifestyle.
Wishing you all the best in your future house sitting endeavors and the process of buying your new home in Wales.

Congratulations, @Victory! Definitely a cause for celebration!
My first sit was last year. Local. It was a bit much on paper: 2 dogs and 2 cats, and I’m mostly a cat guy. However, the dogs didn’t need to be walked or let out for potty; they just roamed the yard. Most importantly, the PPs were also sitters, and they were very gracious about this being my first TH sit. Empathy +1!

Wouldn’t it be great if all PPs have experience being sitters?

Good to know that your first experience went well. What state did you sit and for how long?

So, in relation to the Farmers (those having to sit for Farm animals), do the owners give you training for that? Are they there when you arrive? Any info would be helpful, just in case.

Well done @Victory and so glad you have your daughter with you. This will be the start of many happy sits for you both.
My first sit was in January 2019 near Sevenoaks in Kent, England. I was supposed to have a cat but sadly she died before I sat, the owners had lost their dog the year before too. However, they very kindly still wanted me to sit so the house was secure and it was particularly cold. Despite that I did some lovely walks and was able to meet up with friends nearby. It gave me the confidence to carry on with this lifestyle, and I’ve now got 62 sits under my belt.

Congratulations on your first sit! Here’s to many more successful ones!
My first THS sit unexpectedly turned out to be for a new coworker across the country, in San Francisco. Neither of us knew that when I applied — her partner had listed it and I hadn’t met either of them.
I applied for the sit and then flew off to a teamwide gathering at the headquarters of my then-new job. About 100 of us convened from many states and countries, because we telecommute. Everyone was new to me, including that homeowner-coworker, who actually splits her time in two countries. After I flew home from our team event, I heard from her partner that they’d be happy for me to sit, if I wasn’t weirded out by being coworkers and sitting for them. We were all surprised by the coincidence.
Their home and dog turned out to be lovely and they said they’d like for me to sit again if timing works out.
Another random thing: When I came back from our team event, I received an invite out of the blue for a six-week sit. That sit turned out coincidentally to be in the headquarters city of my company, in San Diego.
I couldn’t do the whole six weeks, so I asked whether the HOs would split it into three sits and have another sitter in between my two sits. I’m now doing the second. The dogs are sweethearts and those HOs have been welcoming. And it coincidentally turns out that two of their adult kids live in my current hometown and they’re visiting there now.

Hey @SadieMarie, so for this sit I’m going a day earlier so the owners can do a day to day with me before they leave for their trip. I’m not a pro but I would assume if you’ve never cared for farm animals just be honest with the owner. Some are more than happy to share their knowledge and teach you!

Our first sit for THS was in February 2014. Just one cat in the beautiful Cotswolds in England for 3 weeks. We had torrential rain most days while we were there and we were so grateful we were looking after a cat rather than a dog which would have needed to be walked. It didn’t deter us from applying for further sit’s though and we have since sat in Sydney Melbourne Amsterdam and the U.K. We love Trusted Housesitters and have seen it grow from strength to strength.

@Victory Our first sit was in Perth, Australia- a month over Christmas 2018/9 with 2 cats- booked from overseas. We were flying in from Bali and our hosts, a young couple, also first timers, were flying to India to get married. We did not meet as they left a week earlier- it was the mother who did the handover. Looking back we all took a big leap of faith that everything would fall into place and it did! It was a lovely first sit and got us hooked! We have since sat in many parts of the world and are currently on Sit no.72 (in Spain!)
I wish you & your sweet daughter many wonderful adventures ahead!

Yes! @Jessyjess dont be afraid to ask questions or tips. I just joined this community and first week thought maybe I wasn’t ever going to get any responses. Got awesome tips and now I’m on my 2 sit as I type this and going to my 3 sit right after.
