We’re 4 sits in to THS and have always taken our supplies of food, oil, herbs, bread, butter etc. To save going to the supermarket, where it is difficult to buy small one meal quantities we have decided to have a Gousto delivery for the first 5 days we are there. Five main meals delivered to our doorstep. Toast for breakfast, out for a pub lunch and back to cook an evening meal - pooch in tow of course.
Maybe an idea for other UK sitters.
I bring enough pasta and basic ingredients to make a variety of meals first few days, definitely bread and butter for toast, and Tea Bags/Milk, but I also love trying out local coffee shops, and pub lunches. I then let the HO know of any particularly good ones, so they can add to their guide for future sitters.
We bring some Simply Cook packets with us as you have the spices you need for each meal
Love sitting in the U.K. as an American. So easy to find prepared meals and other food ready made. Especially love Waitrose, because you get many other goodies there as well. And you can get everything delivered. Just make sure your sit home’s fridge is big enough.
I also love that you can get a full English or Scottish delivered.
Oooh @Maggie8K English and Scottish delivered? I’ll have one of each, one blonde one dark haired, preferably tall
Not what I’m ordering , but I’m sure you could find that if you like. Various hosts might frown on your inviting guests over, though.
We pop to Aldi
I love that as an American you know there is a difference between Scottish and English breakfasts. The square Beef Sausage, (Lorne) makes all the difference
Yup. Irish, too, but I’ve only had that in restaurants, because I’ve visited, but not sat in Ireland.
@colin Aldi is good, prefer Lidl for the in-store bakeries. And Iceland can be fun, too.
If you like Aldi or Lidl, they’re in the U.S., too.
@toml We use both at home. Love the Lidl bakery, but feel Aldi have a better range overall.
Delicious Portuguese Tarts from Lidl bakery
