Giving up on the forum. People moaning and groaning

Nobody has mentioned the fact that the amount of moaning and groaning is in correlation and a reaction to the policy changes made by THS.
If they listened and changed things that negatively effect us, then there would be less moaning. Simple.
Please more moaning and groaning.

Well. My post was actually moaning and groaning too as pointed out by @Hallt64 , but I didnā€™t complain about any THS policies. You canā€™t make everyone happy. Some changes might help some people but others might then start the moaning contest again.

As @Goodboyjakey says, the tone on this Community Forum has changed considerably / dramatically? in the past 1.5-2 years.

The reasons I see for that is (1) THS implementing a number of far reaching changes for how matchmaking takes place, and THS subsequently very stubbornly and at all costs sticking to the policy of not wanting to make any changes in response to how the implemented change is perceived and working in practice for members. We all know which changes these are.

And (2) THS having grown rapidly, and in its outreach to a larger section of the market also having attracted a growing number of HOs and sitters who might actually not be best suited for this site. E.g. unrealistic expectations, not really understanding the commitment part or the fair exchange part, etc. Which leads to more complaints of either sitters or HO about ā€˜horribleā€™ experiences - along the lines that I rarely saw on this forum a few years ago.

You have a point there. I agree with 2 especially. There is currently another thread going started by a new member and thatā€™s a good example.

That is good! More houses to sit in, more sitters, more choice!

Now: expand a bit more beyond the English-speaking world.

Thatā€™d be nice indeedā€¦ the ā€˜imbalanceā€™ between UK vs rest of Europe sits is really significant & I actually have not seen that change in past years. It was like that, it still is like thatā€¦

All the advertising that I see is in English (very cute movies in Youtube advertising, I wonder if there exist versions in other languages).

The Nomador website is multilingual with google-translate links. While the web site of THS, well, what shall we say? (moaning groaning  )

Actually yes. Good to see it from that angle too. More members mean some problematic newcomers, but lots of good ones too no doubt. And yes, more choice!

Because sometimes a little bit of friendly support can be incredibly helpful.

Do you never discuss ā€˜trivialā€™ things to get some advice, or another viewpoint? If you donā€™t, youā€™re missing out on a whole world of different perspectives.

Iā€™m fairly new to this forum and i like it. My husband and i house sat for 9 years before joining THS. We had no advice and no one to share with. We figured it out as we went along. Iā€™d gripe to my friends forgetting that some of them we people we were sitting for - but you knpw what? Next time we sat for them there was space for food in the fridge!

It was so amazing when i finally met another house sitter. I had someone to share with! And i realized that some of my irritarions werenā€™t off base.

I like giving advice. I hope that people learn from the forum. Ive learned a few things. And i enjoy the light stuff - posting about the sit we are on right now or the pet pic from my phone.

I think everyone one of has the ability of lightening the mood and responding to trivial complaints with levity while still helping people out.
