Heads up on damaged items of a sitter

The overly-simple explanation is that any experienced sitter should understand that anything within reach of a pet is at risk of being destroyed/taken. Especially groceries.

If a sitter is struggling financially and has taken amazing care of the pets on a long sit, and some very expensive things were damaged beyond repair, I can see how this can become a grey area in terms of how to actually resolve it.

Now that what’s done is done, all you can do is reply honestly to the sitter’s review of you. It might turn off some sitters, and the sitters who are prepared, or okay with the possibility of their stuff being destroyed, will be fine with it in the future.

Yes, food seems the most obvious. And I would be more worried that a pet could eat something that would make them sick on my watch.

Randomly, I sat a miniature poodle who apparently stole and ate a whole box of chocolates once and didn’t get sick, according to my hosts.

I’m paranoid about not leaving food where pets could get to it. Can’t imagine leaving chocolates anywhere a dog could reach.

100% I just completed a sit, the host was upfront and warned kitty will pee in open luggage and sweet pup might chew my shoes. If either of this things had happened, it would have been on me as the host had shared that info with me
