Hi everyone:
I’m new here. I have a profile to be a sitter and also to obtain a sitter.
I have no idea where to start. I’ve tried to obtain a sitter with my profile but all people I have contacted either didn’t get back to me or said they couldn’t pet sit.
How do I figure out how I can find a place u can go to pet others pets and also get a pet sitter for my pets at the same time?
Any advise is appreciated.
Welcome @RondaC1
The best way to use THS to get a sitter is to post a listing with photos and details of your pets.
The best way to apply to sit for someone is to apply to a listing. As a new sitter you may struggle to get popular sit locations until you build up 10 great reviews. Easiest way to do this is to apply for local and last minute sits.
Good luck.
It may be difficult to obtain a pet sit and get a sitter for the exact time period. You may want to obtain a pet sitter first and then start looking for sits around that same time period. If there are a few days that there will be a gap, maybe stay at a friends or relative for the days that you won’t be at the sit.
Good luck!
Welcome!
The THS system can seem a bit daunting for sure.
As a HO the best way to get a sitter:
-
have clear listing with dates you are looking for ( make the sit “live”) with clear photos of the space (comfy bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom), description of your furry loved ones and needs
-
Contacting them /inviting them has never worked for me but one time and it was someone who sat before for me.
It’s pretty low yield. -
To be a sitter: try doing local sits first to get some reviews which other suggested. I think MIGHT be more inclined to choose a new sitter with minimal reviews if I had a means to actually speak with the people identified on the sitter’s profile as references - but that’s not at all a deal breaker. Something you could offer at first? Have a great profile.
A good strategy - make sure you read sit posts closely and make your correspondence personalized- why are you Fluffy’s best choice !I love that. Definitely biased me to choose someone who read some random thing in my listing…
-
look for sits with low applications or last minute sits is something I’ve seen suggested
-
Have a sense of humour and flexibility
-
Leave your sits you do get spotless, be friendly genuine and communicative
-
know your own limits and boundaries.
. You don’t have to “take anything” just starting out.
-
get the admins of the forum to attach your profile as a HO here to your forum profile … and get feedback from the sitters here.
Hi and welcome. I don’t know so much about the owner side but I can share some insight on the sitter side as to what I look for as a 36 plus 5 star review sitter.
- Is the place clean? Do your pictures show your home, where the sitter will be staying, what you will be offering? I have seen some listings that in my opinion have no business being offered. Homes that are filthy or unorganized?
- How many pets do you have and how difficult are they to care for? If you have more than 3-4 pets that require a lot of additional or extra care, perhaps offering things like a car to entice a high quality sitter?
- Is it a very short stay. Those are difficult. If it’s 1-2 days or nights it may mean that you get a last minute sitter that is looking for a last min gig.
- Are you being nice and friendly in your listing? I have seen owners that post a listing and describing their expectations quite rudely. Of course being clear is always helpful but doing it in a friendly kind way is helpful as well.
Hope this helps you find some great sitters. There are some really great people on the site. good luck
