I live in the Countryside with my husband Andrew and our two miniature poodles. I haven’t used any sitters yet and I’ve joined the forum to look for advice and guidance from regular home owners and sitters. I want my sitters to enjoy their stay and I want my dogs to enjoy their sitters. I believe our location would appeal more to walkers and nature lovers.
I wanted to ask how sitters feel about HO dogs in their bedrooms and quite probably on the bed? Any replies would be gratefully received.
Welcome @Sally1959! In a nutshell: we love Kent; we welcome dogs in the bedroom; and love a snuggle on the bed.
@Sally1959 , many will be interested in sitting for you. The chance to sleep with two mini poodles in a beautiful location? I’d love it.
Hello @Sally1959 and welcome. You’ll see earlier answers to your question in the following post:

Welcome Sally! As sitters, we also love cuddles with pets…on the couch and at night. We purchased a king sized bed when we had 3 kitties sleeping with us each night . Best of luck finding sitters that suit your needs!
Hello @Snowbird, thank you for your answer, I did see that post and realise now I should have read the answers. When I read it I assumed it would only be answered by people who agreed. I have a lot to learn
@Sally1959 Oh you’ll rarely find a post on this forum where people overwhelmingly agree. Provided our opinions are shared respectfully, variety is the spice of life. Feel free to chime in with your opinions anytime, in any post. It’s what keeps things lively here. Photos are always a bonus too. Please share a photo of your two miniature poodles, including their names, of course. Welcome to the community.
@Snowbird, the chocolate poodle boy is Solly, translated in Hebrew that means peace, we’re hoping he grows into his name (he’s only 18 months) and the little black and white poodle girl is Luna, she is 5 and very much a gentle lady unless she’s fighting with Solly
Sally, thanks for sharing photos of Luna and Solly. I’d happily cuddle them, if I was lucky enough to spend time with them. Love those ears
Hi and welcome. My own dogs always slept with me and I love it when the dogs I sit for also do. I’ve been known to sleep on couches to be with dogs that were too old to be on a bed but cried to be with a human — I go to them.
They’re gorgeous. They can sleep on my bed any time. I’ve just finished a sit with 2 dogs one of whom (Jack Russell) is used to sleeping on the owners’ bed, so I obliged. He always started off ‘on’ the bed but when I went to the loo would have snuck right under the covers. In the morning he might come up for air and lay his head on a pillow. So cute!
Sorry but it’s a big NO from me. I’m a very light sleeper so it’s more than enough with just my husband in bed! Pets in bed is also unhygienic. I don’t apply for any sits that say the pets sleep in the bedroom as it’s unfair on the pets to be put out of their routine.
Hi Crookie, Thank you for your reply, I do not allow our dogs in the bed only on it. When I post the dates I shall make sure it includes where they sleep, I do not want to mislead anyone, nor do I want to waste a sitters time by being economical with the truth. Kind regards Sally
Welcome, Sally.
Dogs and cats on the bed are fine with me.
I’m on a sit maybe near you near the Hayes (Kent) station if you want to meet a sitter and learn more. I’m sitting with a delightful cavapoo who starts the night on the bed but hasn’t been there in the mornings. Maybe I move around too much.
Tom
Hi Tom, thank you for the offer, how long are you there for? Sally
@toml I’d like to think that the dog may also have a caring protective nature. By that I mean that once they were satisfied that you were settled in, that they moved elsewhere. In one of my sits, although the dog was not allowed on the bed (homeowner’s rule), she at times slept at the side of the bed (almost stepped on her once as she was so quiet), other nights at the foot of the bed, and other times just came in for a while and then slept elsewhere. OK, maybe I snore? Who knows as I’m a solo sitter, but I’d like to think I was being protected.
I like that thought!
Really enjoyed meeting Sally and Andrew this morning for coffee in Hayes. They kindly drove it to somewhere I could walk to and we had good conversation!
It was great to be able to meet you @Toml, you were able to answer my questions and a few of my concerns. We have certainly taken on board your comment about a vehicle and will look into that.
A true gentleman and a very experienced sitter, hope that we are lucky enough to get you as a sitter at some point.
How lovely
