Question for the other sitters who don’t like the idea of hidden indoor cameras, do you check? I had a super creepy Airbnb so I mostly check on those, but I also get curious about some of the house sits.
Anyone use a hidden camera such detection apps such as Fing or Peek? These are the only two I’ve got experience with.
There are 9 devices on the main wifi, and 4 and the ‘extended’ wifi. I upgraded Fing to use the camera detection. No recognized camera/baby monitor-type devices but still 3 unrecognized devices.
I use Fing. Not sure if it really shows hidden cams. I had several issues where it wasn’t a hidden cam in the end. But probably I am using it wrong… I have to admit that I do not pay so much attention on hidden cams. I like the idea of being trusted but of course I would really really hate it when there’s a cam somewhere.
No, that’s not for us. I like owners who feel like they can naturally trust us, and it works vice versa. We take sits where we feel a good natural connection with the owners, we trust our intuition and our gut and it has never failed us so far.
We sit full-time, so I don’t want mistrust thinking about hidden cameras on arrival at every new sit, when we’ve had no reason to mistrust any owners in the slightest so far, we’ve had fantastic HO’s.
The idea of hidden cameras is a horrible one, but I understand that sometimes on computer desks there may be a one clearly on display, which I simply pop a cloth over, just in case.
Hi, just picking up on this thread as I am new to the forum but have been with THS since 2018. The THS guide says that all internal cameras should be switched off, the sitters should also be aware of their location. Outside security cameras and the doorbell type are ok, but these should be pointed out also. In my preference I wish that THS adopt the Airbnb way and ban all cameras from the internal property when sits, in their case Rentals are taking place. At the end of the day we are on TRUSTED house sitters site and feel that trust and honesty must go both ways. If in doubt ask or, decline!
