I have been looking for sits in a city of 10,000sq miles. A listing stating “on a busy street with bars and restaurants” or “in North Dallas” will not help sitters when browsing their next sits.
If you are not aware, the only way for a sitter to contact a homeowner is to “apply;” therefore, applications received may not be an indicator of a good listing.
Good descriptor examples: a ten minute drive to Dodger Stadium; five miles to Mall of America; a ten minute walk to South by Southwest; near the intersection of First & Broadway.
Your best bet is to apply and then if they reach out to you to ask for the information. Very few homeowners will see this thread. There are several threads about the many issues with “homeowner location” and the inaccuracy of the maps.
When the HO makes their profile, they have to enter their full address. Many - if not most - don’t realize that this doesn’t show up in what we see when we look at their listing. I’ve had more than one HO be confused when I ask them for a more specific location.
The full address isn’t always in the Welcome Guide either! I have received one with just a post code, which in the UK could cover anything from a few houses to a small village and the surrounding countryside. Luckily I already knew the address as it was a fairly local sit for new hosts and I had arranged to visit the home in advance.
I agree with @DianeG that some new hosts expect THS to automatically supply this information to sitters.
Yup, when I see listings in major metros that don’t include the neighborhood, I just skip the listing. I won’t bother applying to ask, because there are so many other sits to consider.
