School starts in August so it could very well be true

As a HO who has not been able to contact my HS for days prior to a sit…if the HO really needed to contact you they could have used member services or could have made sure you were connected on WhatsApp. My HS had family upset so that’s why they were not responding to my THS and WhatsApp messages, I only involved THS when I could not contact the HS for days and was becoming very concerned about preparing to use a back up HS.

My long winded point is…I really think the HO was wrong and did not make any effort to go beyond what was easy for them. I am very sorry about your situation and hope you find a solution!

As a full time sitter, i have compassion for your situation. My experience verifies what you are saying. THS isn“t helpful. And the insurance program is a joke. They ask for so much data and proof, and then they have caps on the reimbursement that doesn“t come close to covering what it costs to stay at a hotel or decent Airbnb. And then there“s a deductible. I don“t see any easy answers. Moving forward, just have a back up plan and figure that this is going to happen, but rarely.

Sadly, in this TH arrangement anyone can pretty much do anything they want. Sure there are some guardrails (bad reviews) but people will still do what is best for them , not necessarily what is fair and right. And, to take your q re: TH doing something when owners break a contract to the next step. What could TH do ? Banning from the site is certainly a possibility but I’m suspecting that short of absolutely egregious situations (sitters being harmed, threatened, etc.) TH is reluctant to do this because…well…business. Obviously I’m offering only my perspective here.

I am a HO but I think that’s highly unfair to a HS. The HO should pay you back for the bought tickets - at least partly. I’d never do something like that, cancelling a house sit without a very urgent reason.
