House cleaning and other scheduled service

I was told that I needed to let the cleaner in at one sit as the cleaner did not have a key.

I had a recent sit that was maddening as a gardener showed up unexpectedly around 7am after heavy rain and he used a leaf blower for over an hour. Leaf blowers really don’t work when the grass/ground is sopping wet. After he left, I went outside and found leaves still stuck to the grass and ground. He basically just woke me up and made a bunch of noise for nothing. Another reason, I prefer not to have third parties around.

If you were told that AHEAD of agreeing to the sit, I don’t see the issue.
And of course it depends on how often, how early, could the cleaner lock up & leave or were you expected to stay around…
ALL things we need to ask during the video chat convos!

Cleaners usually have schedules, because they have multiple clients. They often don’t switch times, because it would create ripples across their schedules. That would especially be problematic for folks who clean in crews. Like on my last sit, three cleaners came at the same time, which is standard for that home.

I have only twice been at houses with cleaners, and both times the HO asked my permission.

First house cleaner was lovely, We chatted. she did a great job.

second house 2 cleaning sisters came together, from a company, their standard was very poor. I cleaned ingrained dirt from bathroom sinks, and green algae from shower screen, AFTER they left. I told home owner, ā€œif they were my cleaners, they would be sacked.ā€ I did a better job than they did. So in that case the disruption of having them there was not worth the inconvenience to me.

I house sat once in a house i used to own fir the people i sold it to. There was a shower with concret floor with large pebbles. It very easily became mildewed and was like that when we saw there. I scrubbed it with bleach before we left the sit. The new owner seemed surprised that it could be cleaned at all. I think people get used to uckiness built up over time and just dont see it and dont realize it can be cleaned.

Yeah, that situation would bother me too. If the platform says no third parties, I’d expect that to include regular cleaners unless it was clearly explained up front and agreed to. It’s not just the inconvenience of letting someone in, it’s the noise, the chemical smells, and having to plan your day around it. Most hosts I’ve sat for either pause cleaning services during the stay or give the sitter the option. At a minimum, it should be discussed before the sit starts so you can decide if you’re comfortable with it. Same goes for gardeners, maintenance visits, or any recurring service. It’s about respect and clear expectations, otherwise it turns into stuff you didn’t sign up for. And honestly, good communication solves ninety percent of this. I deal with similar timing stuff sometimes when scheduling junk removal at my own place, and I usually go with Fast Junk Removal since they coordinate well and don’t make me sit around waiting. If the cleaner situation keeps happening, I’d bring it up with the homeowner or THS support so it’s handled properly for future sits.
