House on the market

Hard NO. No. No.No.
Risk, time, inappropriate request…No.
Co-ordinating with potential buyers is their realtor’s job and the mere fact that they’re asking you is a huge red flag !

We’ve recently applied for a sit. The pet parents have 2 sets of dates listed: one in April and one in May-June. In arranging the video chat, they’ve mentioned that the property is currently on the market for sale, so they’ll send us the the sales brochure link so that we ‘can see lots of photos of the house and garden’.

We’ve withdrawn our application, and suggested they should include this info in their listing, for transparency. What’s the guarantee that they will still be in this property in June?

And what have you decided to do @Katemarie?

I had a long (repeat) sit in a very fancy mansion in the English countryside, and the HO asked if it was ok to have the estate agent visit twice to show some people around.

I was completely fine with it. I tend to be a very tidy person anyway, so there was no mad clean up to do, and, to be honest, I wanted to see who the possible purchasers might be!

(They came, did a quick visit, they didn’t seem to be anyone famous/notable, and didn’t buy the house)

Hi @Katemarie

I’m really sorry to hear about this.

As others have mentioned, this is against the third party clause, and I think it would be worth reaching out to Membership Services about this, as it’s really not appropriate of the home owner to expect this of you.

Please do let us know if you reach out to Membership Services, and let us know the outcome.

@Jenny

Are you sure it is against the third party rule?

According to THS , As long as they do not live in, the sitter is aware of their schedules prior to the sit and it is all pre-agreed, then it would be fine.

In this situation OP was not made aware before the sit began .

Third parties must be disclosed in the listing and before sits are confirmed .

“The pet parent should stipulate the potential for any third parties to be present during a sit by putting that information in their listing. ”

I was going with what others have mentioned here @Colin - but I’m happy to be put right as I can see that they also mentioned the caveat around it being written in the listing and agreed with the sitter! Thanks for the heads up! :slightly_smiling_face:

I think ultimately OP should reach out to Membership Services for advice on this as it doesn’t feel right for them to be doing this without prior discussion.

I’ve seen several listings like that in the past. If it’s against THS rules, why are those listings not removed?
