Yes, it does seem to be a forum for sitters rather than homeowners, and sitters appear to be quick to blame the homeowner for any issues, and are often dogmatic in their opinions.

@lolrj you have mentioned ā€œexcessive surveillanceā€ several times.

Judging just from AirBnBs and my neighbours, a garage notification, or a driveway camera, is fast becoming the norm and in some areas is a necessity to check deliveries etc. It is certainly well within the THS guidelines as long as sitters are aware of it. It offers security for the sitter as well, notifying them of any unanticipated visitors.

The first thing that police here do in the event of a crime is ask homeowners for their security footage.

Yes, I am ā€œdogmaticā€ in my belief that sitters deserve dignity, respect, and to be in a safe and healthy environment as part of their half of the THS exchange.

Maybe take a step back and reflect if that offends you.

Why would I be offended? I agree, totally.

Our only difference of opinion is that I believe that homeowners also deserve dignity and respect, and are entitled to have their pets safe and healthy and their home cared for.

@Marj Yes, itā€™s common to have external cameras. However, there is a difference between having them for security purposes and using them to monitor the movements of a sitter.
