I am at a sit that was supposed
to be until 24 Feb but they had to
cancel their trip away as flights
and ferry got cancelled so they
have only gone for 3 days.
I cannot apply for any other sits
as your platform says I am booked.
That doesn’t seem fair as it is not
my fault this happened, and now
I have to find somewhere else to
go as I am in another country
and cannot just go home.
Is there any way to change this on
you platform, as I was able to apply
For other sits previously when this
happened and if people booked
they use to be able to do so.
You can contact THS to ask them to sort it out (include screen shots of communication with hosts) - not sure if they will act on sitter doing it. Or you can ask the host to contact THS to change the dates. They also should include screen shots proving that you consent to the change. Do it asap - in the past THS has been very fast to do it, in my experience, but it could have gotten worse. Neither host or sitter can change the dates by themselves once the sit has started.
The people are taking a much needed break. Also I don’t think the Home Owners can change dates for their sits once someone is booked in, as many have not been able to do this over the past 8 years I have been on here.
Shame the notification is you are booked elsewhere, and there is NO option to click on Apply for another sit in this situation.
I hope that THS will change the dates on your contact. I understand that you want to protect the holiday of the hosts. I think you can try to make it as easy for them as possible, such as pre-write the email and include the screen shots, and the hosts can simply forfard it to THS. But you should also think about yourself now - you do need a place to stay.
I know that THS does change the dates when the host asks, as two years ago I asked my host to do it so I could apply for overlapping sits, and they kept me on the loop on how it worked.
Yes, it’s possible for a sitter to change the end date of a sit. I did this on Monday, after the HO decided to return home a day early (we knew from the onset it was on the cards, so didn’t mind). Just message the HO via your usual channels (I used WhatsApp) and ask them to confirm the new end date required (stating day and date) then take a screenshot, go onto chat, inform Frankie (the annoying bot) that you wish to '“speak to a human” (do this twice and you’ll be transferred to an actual person - woo!), inform the agent that the HO wishes to change the end date of your current sit, then attach the screenshot to confirm.
The agent is able to amend the end date on your dashboard immediately, which subsequently enables you to then apply for other sits.
It’s not the first time I’ve had to do this but, on this occasion, there were a few more hoops to jump through, since the agent asked several security questions despite that I was already logged in. Something like: answer at least 2 questions from section A and 1 from section B, from given lists. I guess that additional security palaver must be attributable to the recent ‘improvements’ .
I hope you can get this resolved quickly, as I did.
^Quite the security: there is no check on the host even having the phone number on the screen shots. Anyone can fake that. Sure, then the host probably gets curious, but unless they get a notification (I dont remember if I got, maybe an email?), they might not notice.
I had to find alternative accommodation elsewhere. Shame home owners or ever sitters cannot alter dates to correct ones.
We used to be able to apply for other sits. I had a sit end in 2 months instead of 3 months. I was able to apply for another sit and got to it, and the homeowner was able to confirm me into the sit. It came up with a warning but she knew the current sit I was on was cut short by one month, and could still book me in. Shame that cannot happen now!
That’s inaccurate. It is possible for sitters to amend dates, even when a sit has already commenced. Just ask the HO to confirm new end date in a WhatsApp message and forward to THS, with a request to amend. It’s quick and easy to do.
