How many hours do you work while petsitting? (full-time petsitters & remote workers)

I do work full time remotely, but I also own my business so I am sort of “always on”.

I telecommute f/t in the tech / startup world.

I could work less, but I’d have to give up leadership roles, which allow the greatest impact, challenges and growth. One of my mentors retired in his 40s, but I have a hard time imagining doing that even in my 50s. I could see doing it only if I didn’t still relish my work.

I’ve taken two long sabbaticals and ended up bored after awhile. I missed solving hard problems and working with and learning from amazing, driven people.

For me, sitting offers opportunities to travel and telecommute, so why not. I avoid complicated sits and try to fly on weekends.

@wolfcub,

I pet sit solo and I work remotely full time even evening and weekends. However my work is flexible and allows me to do both the pets and the job without reducing my hours. I think that you reducing your hours is your business and you shouldn’t need to validate anyone else’s opinions. You are doing what you want and putting the animals first is a great thing! Keep up the awesome work and shake off any negativity that may make you feel like you are not doing right by yourself or the pets!

I’m currently working full time and solo house sitting in the London, U.K. area so that I can go to the office twice a week, but I’ll be starting my sabbatical in a couple months to combat burnout. During that time I will drop my “productive” hours down. Quality over quantity.
