Can I just say… I think TrustedHousesitters has a lot bigger issues to address than the distraction of semantics.
[cough] The booking fee debacle.
Background checks for members. All the members, not just the sitters.
Various glitches that members have requested attention to.
I think employee time could be much more efficiently spent tackling some of the issues that have drawn a lot more member interest.
In light of the above, my response to the title question is “who cares”. People I’m applying to sit for can call themselves whatever they like.
Just my few cents and my personal opinion, not looking to argue with anyone.
I would argue that it’s not semantics. I say this as a combined member. As a host, I go out of my way to make my home as comfortable and welcoming as I can for sitter-guests. When I had paid sitters: overnight and drop ins, I didn’t make anywhere near the effort. I make the effort because I understand this as an exchange and I want good reviews so sitters will want to stay at my home. I think anything that THS could do to make hosts understand that this isn’t just a “service” that sends petsitters to them but a mutual exchange would be great. I think calling hosts, hosts places them more firmly in the role. I don’t think sitters should be called guests, but maybe “sitter-guests” would be accurate.
Hi everyone,
This poll is going to close at 2026-01-28T23:59:00Z, short of a last minute landslide, the most popular choice seems fairly clear.
Thanks for all the votes and comments. It may take a little while for any changes to be made, but we’ll consider everything that’s been shared here. ![]()
What a shame THS didn’t ask their members back in 2022 before it was implemented.
