How to get sitters?

Thanks @Sam_F , this “may” have something to do with the OP getting no interest, just a thought. But good to know this issue going forward for everyone :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve read your listing just now. Nearby shops…? What other attractions? I think it’s close enough to Bournemouth isn’t it? And Stonehenge? Also, I think I’ve been to a carpet place and remember it having lovely grounds in Wilton(?) and being a great place to visit. Remember, it’s still early. Octobers a few weeks away.

@Pipkin
Please add more information about the chickens and their care .
Ideally a separate paragraph.
Do they have to be brought in at dusk ?
Are the free range ? Need to be watched during the day ? Does sitter need to be aware of predators ( foxes etc )
Do they need cleaning out / how often / any eggs for the sitter ?

I see that you have made this a family friendly sit which is great for the half- term dates .
Can you add photos of the other bedrooms available if a family sits for you.

And as others have already said sitters need to know how long the dogs can be left alone for .

Seen your updates, it is spot on. Seems like an attractive sit with your alterations -not only because it is more info. but because it shows you know the needs of a sitter.

Best of luck!

Looks great now! If it were two weeks earlier I would jump at it :clinking_glasses:

The only problem remaining is that anyone who has entered “dogs” only in their preferences, the listing still doesn’t show up because your listing shows poultry and dogs. It will only show in listings for anyone that has “all pets” or “dogs and poultry” as preferences and the latter is highly unlikely.

Sam has referred this to support to maybe fix this but if I were you, I would remove the chickens from the actual listing so that it shows to everyone looking for a dog sit but include the chooks in the text of your listing, maybe in your opening. Chickens are easy anyway so I don’t think they would be a deal breaker but as it stands now, if sitters have ticked “dogs” only as their sit preference, they won’t see your listing.

Great advice- I have done that. Thank you!

Hi @Pipkin
Can I make some suggestions around your photos. First is great pic of your 2 dogs but after this as a sitter I would like to see clear pictures of the kitchen, dining room, bedroom a sitter will be staying in and the bathroom a sitter will be using. Try and capture as much detail per room (like an estate agent picture!).

I disagree. If one doesn’t use the button for poultry, then people looking for poultry wouldn’t get the listing on their list when they search.

And if a sitter search for dogs only and find that there are other animals without it being marked with the symbol for it/ poultry it could be conceived as to sneak them in. Which isn’t good, if one feels that it is snuck in one can wonder what else would be. That is at least how I perceive it, if I suddenly in the profile text find that there are more/ other animals than it is ticked off for. But it is a choice.

@ziggy I don’t think on this occasion it is an error or glitch . This is how the platform was designed and has been programmed from the start.

  • if You search for “cats” the results are the listings with cats only and therefore doesn’t include sits with
cats & dogs; ( which is useful for someone who doesn’t want to sit dogs ) but also means the results don’t include
    cats + a tortoise or
    cats + chickens etc.

The only way to find sits with multiple species is click all the pets you are happy to care for , or to click “all pets”

You just need to sit tight. Your sit is still some way off & some HOs are still posting August sits! It’s a very appealing sit - I’d be very surprised if you didn’t get applicants. It’s the sort of sit we would apply for - we are part time sitters who use the site to spend time with animals after losing our beloved house cat & having short breaks away in locations we like. If we weren’t busy during the dates it’s definitely a sit I would shortlist.

@Silversittersi understand what you are saying but I want to do more research on this issue  But I stand by my comments to the OP on this occasion about removing poultry from her listing as it seems to be causing a bit of an issue in her situation. Her listing now clearly mentions the poultry in the text so I think it is much better. It’s not a perfect scenario but sometimes we need to bend the rules to make things work. I’m going to do more research lol

@ziggy I remember that this was discussed on the forum in 2023 which is when I found out about it - @geoff.hom did a lot of research into the THS search results .

This may (or may not ) help with your research :face_with_monocle:

Hi @ziggy @Cuttlefish

Just an update; I have heard back from Tech Support and they have informed me that they will review the pet filters and see if they can improve the user experience.
