How to pick

Please do bear in mind that it’s not just about the pet parents having to decide between applicants, the sitters will also be weighing you up and deciding whether this is a best-fit, or a best-avoided scenario .

@Loobyloo let us know what was behind your reasoning for the person you end up choosing. Curious to hear your thoughts. Good Luck !

I’m also wondering how other HO’s respond when declining an application? I hate to disappoint anyone and would want to do it in the kindest way, without saying I’m going with someone ‘better’! How do you word it? Thanks.

How about something like “Thanks very much for your application, you sound great but we have already found someone who was just a little quicker/better fit/closer/more experienced (choose as you wish) for this next sit. I hope we might stay in touch for a future sit if that is of interest.” (don’t include if you don’t feel this). #itsgoodtotalk

Thanks for applying. We’re going with a sitter who more strongly fits our pet’s needs.

Thank-you for your offer to come and stay at our home to look after Toby.

We have been so lucky as we have had several really good people apply this time.

On this occasion we have chosen someone else but we really would love you to come stay sometime in the future please do apply again.

OR

Thankyou for you offer to come and stay at our home to look after Toby, unfortunately you are not quite the fit that we are looking for.

You can simply just say «We now have an agreement for the sit and would like to thank you for your application.» Have a nice day or other.

Don’t have to mention your selection at all.
