I'm having a hard time attracting a sitter, would appreciate advice!

Hi Maggie8K, I agree that 1.7 miles is not walkable with groceries in tow, that is why I did not put “distance to shopping” in my profile, I just mentioned it in my reply to someone on the forum, and stated I would not walk it. I will work on making it clear they need a car in this city or to call an uber, which I did mention were easily accessible. This is a learning curve for me, and I appreciate the feedback. Thanks!

Thanks so much for your feedback, you make great points. I love your title, I’m going to use it. One problem with reaching out for advice is you get so many different answers, I change the profile according to what one person suggests, then someone else comes along with what seems a better idea! Lol……so off I go to edit again! Again, thanks!

Since you are asking the sitter to arrive the day before, it may be worthwhile to consider taking the sitter to the market that day so they can purchase what they need if they do not have transportation. If you are happy to do so, mention that in your listing. For me personally, I do use Uber, but it can be expensive depending on location and time of travel. If you can get food and/or restaurant meals delivered where you are, it may be worth mentioning that. Some places look remote, but meal delivery may be available.

I agree. This home looks like it is quite enjoyable to stay «at home», so with a little help shopping and maybe a tip or to to a nice home delivery restaurant and the chances of a good sitter will really approve.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. I think I could mention that transportation to a grocery store could be arranged, as well as giving estimates of charges for an Uber to and from a shopping, eating, area with lots of options once there. Thanks for the idea!

Hi, thanks for your reply. I think I’m hearing over and over that I need to edit to be more clear about location, and proximity to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. I will work on my listing to put some of these good suggestions to use!

Frankly, I’m shocked that you didn’t get 5 applications immediately, since your listing looks amazing. The only down side to me is the fact that you’re not near public transportation. That’s something that I always look for. If there’s any way that you could add a sitter to your auto insurance policy, that might help attract a sitter.

The sit is still a couple of months away, so you may get more eyes on your listing as the date draws near.

Good luck. Whoever gets this sit will be very lucky - it looks heavenly!

@Travelpro Maybe you could consider including an Uber gift card that would cover a trip to a grocery store.

Your sit looks wonderful. One issue with getting applications might just be timing. There are lots of sits for Thanksgiving and there may be less sitters available since some spend the holiday with family.

@systaran - agreed. Thus far no one has mentioned that this is over Thanksgiving week. And, in my experience, airfare is much more expensive at this time. And - it’s a horrible time for road-trips in the US.

@Travelpro I would definitely want to sit at your place and have marked it as a favorite. But, Thanksgiving week might be (in addition to the car issue) what is most challenging about this one.

Hi, thanks, that’s a good idea. I didn’t know you could buy gift cards, I always just use the app…was thinking about how you can pay for Ubers other than the app!
