Hi all,
We normally travel monday-Thursday and then I go to work. I don’t have time to do all the clean up and break down for multiple sitters in a month. Is having someone one for a month stay while we are in the home acceptable? Thanks
Hi @Penny1212 Do you mean that you will be back in the home each weekend during the month ? For a THS sit as you must vacate the home for the duration of the sitters stay.
“A pet parent must ensure that their property is vacant and that no other person will be living in the home apart from the sitters. This includes (and is not limited to) no family members, tenants or employees. “
Having said that this arrangement could work as a month long stay if you have a completely separate annex / property with its own facilities where the sitter would have their complete privacy for those weekends ?
It might also be perfect arrangement for someone local living at home with their parents who wants their own space and freedom mid week . Or a divorcee who wants to be near their children . Or someone working in the area mid week.
If you list all the separate dates and write in your introduction to your listing that you would be happy to have one sitter stay for the entire month but that you will be home for those weekends , explaining that if they wish to stay for the weekends that would be a private arrangement outside of THS.
Another suggestion - could you employ someone to do the change over between sits ( cleaning changing bedding etc ) ?
No. THS terms don’t allow hosts to stay in the home beyond an overlap at the start or end, for hand-off purposes. Plus, most THS sitters value having the place to themselves.
No. No third parties in the home.
It is possible that you may be able to find someone who is either local or also in a similar position as you are, such as a contract worker or a business traveler. Same person who commutes.
Explain it in detail in your description and see what responses you get. Say that you prefer to have the same person for x Dates etc.
I have seen several sits such as this. There are all sorts of people looking for a variety of options that fit their needs. A new local sitter looking to build their profile may also find this very appealing.
Best wishes, there is a match, a solution to everything.
Or a college student. In October I will be doing a sit where the HO lost their ordinary sitter and dog walker because she graduated and moved. It sounds like they had more or less adopted her
Exactly. When I worked as a travel nurse, I often had 3 month contracts of 3 shifts a week and would commute home to my family in between. Some thing for everyone
Would you be taking care of the pets etc whilst you are home or expecting the sitter to continue doing their responsibilities?
I guess it could suit some sitters if they had their own private guest cottage or you made a good personal connection with them otherwise it might be too uncomfortable for a sitter to be in a strangers home whilst the hosts are there
You can make alternative arrangements, as other folks have noted. If you do, you might end up in violation of THS terms or run afoul of your homeowners’ insurance terms. Flagging in case you want to take those into consideration, in case things go sideways.
I would watch the dogs and they could do Las Vegas.
I don’t know about the rules but for sitter that might be very appealing. Like they get a little break every once in a while.
There must be a way of sorting this out because it could totally work for both you and many sitters. Maybe break the sit up into different sits and just explain you’re really looking for someone to do all the sits and to only apply if they’re available for the duration of all the sits and then arrange the in between stays with the sitter outside of THS.
