Is 5-week sit considered too long?

Dear all
I have 2 upcoming trips next Apr-May and can arrange either 2 sits (2 weeks then 2-week break then followed by 3-week sit) or I can combine the 2 trips into one long one which means 5-week sit.

Wondering if sitters would consider 5-week sit too long ?

I know I will miss the doggies being away too long but logistically will make better sense for me.

Trying to find out what do sitters normally prefer.

Not at all. (as a sitter) I generally won’t even go lower than 4 weeks unless it’s to fill a gap or somewhere I really want/need to be. 5 weeks is great and many people are looking for longer sits.

Sitters are different and have different needs and preferences.

We’ve just finished a 7 week sit, and a 4 week sit prior to that. We love longer sits, they’re very relaxing for those of us who sit full time, rather than moving around every couple of weeks.

We’ve also got a few longer sits lined up for the future too.

Personally I’d keep it as one longer sit.

Up to you. 5 weeks is a nice long sit. We are doing a 12 day sit and then having a 10 day break and then the same sit again for 4 weeks. Choose what suits you & the pets best. #allaboutclearcomms

Definitely not. We’re on a 6 week sit at the moment, and did a 7 week sit last year.

Most of my sits are three, four weeks or longer, sometimes a few months. I prefer that.

I am trying to get sitters for a month at Christmas, have been cancelled on twice, so not sure if it’s the 4 weeks or Christmas that’s putting people off?

4-6 weeks is our ideal sit time period.

Your post was hidden because you posted it as last minute when it’s almost 2 months away, but I left you some feedback if you can still access the thread.

When you say cancelled, do you mean the sitters and you both hit the right buttons to mutually accept a sit? If so, did they give you a reason?

Hi @ellieh
I have just looked at your profile and the dogs waking up at 5.30 to be let out would put many off. Has this changed for the better now as the mornings will be dark in December.
The photo with the dog and rug looks like the dog has destroyed something. Is this usual behaviour? If not then remove the photo.
Is there anything interesting going on in your area over the Festive Season which you could include?

Thank you everyone for your kind response. It seems that 5-week sit is do-able by many sitters! I will make plans for it

Yeah, this is basically all the same feedback I gave. the 5:30 wouldn’t bother me as I’m generally up that time to let myself out to go potty anyways. lol. but the destroyed toy would make me think I’ll have to spend the whole sit either protecting or cleaning items.

My mom just did a two month sit and loved it. You really have to think about about the level of work in the sit and the location/season. I have seen sits even close to a year listed and taken.

I personally would prefer one long sit for continuity with my pets instead of my pets meeting two separate people and having to acclimate again.

Please just make sure to leave enough for five months worth for your pets and basic home care.

Its five weeks not five months.

I think it’s weeks, not months, but it’s a good thing to keep in mind. I’m starting a multi-month sit in a week and I recommended that they sign up for a food/litter delivery service that auto-delivers once a month. That way we don’t have to worry about leaving/repaying money during the sit and the cat won’t get switched to something new by accident - which an throw things off. It’s a lot easier now with recurring delivery services.

A 5-week sit is fine, and it will give your dogs the opportunity to properly bond with your sitters.

Wishing you the best of luck!

There are definitely occasions where a 5 week sit would be welcomed by us as sitters.
