Is our sit too long or is the notice too short?

Search the forum for calendar and you’ll see hundreds of threads about the uselessness of the calendar.

Have you checked to see who has added your listing to their favourites? Sometimes people :blue_heart: it if the dates are not quite doable, or if they are busy, or on another sit, but that they would love to come another time.

As very experienced sitters, I found your profile welcoming, and informative. If we had been available, we would have applied.

Good luck!

Have you had any applicants yet? I can’t see as am busy on another sit and, annoyingly, it won’t show me!

I would love to take care of your cats, @Lynn-Howard . Unfortunately the dates don’t work. I’ve favourited the sit, so hopefully another time! :two_hearts:

Currently zero applicants… surprising really as it seems like an ideal cat sit.

I recently saw a listing that said right up front that if someone couldn’t cover the whole time that was OK. If you don’t get more applicants soon you might wish to try that.

I do intend to do this if we’ve heard nothing by next week (with just a month to go). I’m reluctant, as we always like to be here to help our sitters settle in. But we do have friends who’d be willing to do that, and even cover any few ‘leftover’ days.
I did ‘renew’ the listing this morning, so everything still crossed.

The main thing it is useful for is to exclude sitters who have a confirmed sit through THS for those dates. It is admittedly imperfect but if the HO is in a pinch they have to start somewhere. No point inviting people who for sure can’t accept.

That is a point, ofc. It could be so for some sitters. Some sitters sit as a couple and are able to do overlapping sits (and THS has a small project trying out overlapping sits). For some they would possibly be available even though the calendar says busy with a sit.

Agreed, but at this point that would be extremely rare. “The perfect is the enemy of the good.” She’ll get 376 potential sitters available in Manchester alone using the current, imperfect calendar. At least none of those 376 will be booked on another sit through THS.

Just to let folk know we finally received three lovely applications and we have just confirmed an experienced sitter for the whole three weeks. Very pleased. We used all your tips and advice - it really helped. Many thanks (& @Colin doesn’t need to eat his hat ).

So pleased for you. I would have jumped at the sit as I know the area well. We have just moved home after 41 years and taking some time out to get sorted before we hit the road again. Colin will be pleased his hat collection remains intact.

Excellent outcome @Lynn-Howard. I can see the next time you post dates, we’ll all be scrambling to be in the first five applications which sadly disadvantages those of us Down Under!
