It’s That Time Of Year For Christmas Markets! 🎄

I am heading to Amsterdam soon and wondered if anyone knows of special Christmas markets in the Amsterdam or maybe even some other little towns, that really go above and beyond.

In case you’re looking for an alternative, these work well and have never gotten me stopped. And I’ve given them to other folks while traveling, which I wouldn’t with a stain pen.

Hi @Therese the Ice Village at Museumplein is one of the most traditional Christmas markets in Amsterdam :christmas_tree:

We arrived in Munich last week, Germany’s third-largest city, after a storm over the weekend before last dropped nearly a foot and a half of snow, setting a December record. It was also the city’s largest snowstorm since early March 2006 and among the biggest of any month on record.

The Munich Christmas Market “Münchner Christkindlmarkt” looked especially pretty in the snow especially with the 25-metre-high Christmas tree with 3000 candles shining in all its glory.

The roots of the Christkindlmarkt are said to date back to the 14th century - to the so-called St. Nicholas markets. The first documented mention of a so-called „Nikolaidult” takes us back to 1642 in Kaufingerstraße near the Schöner Turm.

In the course of the Enlightenment, the “Nikolaimarkt” was renamed “Christmarkt” in 1806 and - after several changes of location it found its permanent place in the heart of the city in 1972 as the “Münchner Christkindlmarkt”.

There is live Bavarian Stubenmusic (traditional folk music), wind ensembles, singers and choirs which set the mood for the Advent season playing from the Town Hall balcony, starting at 5.30 pm from Sunday to Thursday.

thank you for the tip @Maggie8K I just looked on Amazon and those are really expensive. I will stick to packing dark and patterned clothes that hide stains. Or continue to wash in the bathroom sink with shampoo - has worked well so far.

Doing a sit in Luxembourg. Went to markets in Trier, Germany and Luxembourg City. Both well worth a visit. Think we liked Trier the best it wasn’t huge and overwhelming.

These are Trier

Luxembourg, it was too crowded, Sunday, to get pics

We visited Zürich, Switzerland the weekend before last.

Zurich’s “Wienachtsdorf” at Sechseläutenplatz
is one of the largest Christmas markets in the city of Zurich and is held at Sechseläutenplatz, directly in front of the Opera House.

We loved the Christkindlimarkt, the Christmas market which is held at Zurich Main Station. It is one of the largest indoor Christmas markets in Europe with a 15-meter (49 ft) tall sparkling Christmas tree.

To join in with the Christmas Market festivities, I headed to the one in Denver, Colorado. It was super cute with lots of yummy European food. We met some lovely people around the fire pit and they gave me my first taste of Smores! :christmas_tree:

We visited Basel, Switzerland recently to explore the Christmas market on Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz. It is considered to be one of the prettiest and largest in Switzerland. :christmas_tree::switzerland:
