Once during a housesit I broke an expensive blender. My fault entirely. Suffice to say I could have had a week in a luxury hotel for what it cost me to replace it. I now never use electrical equipment.
@AussieGail - Ouch!
@Colin Baking soda and bicarb soda refer to the same thing. · Australia, New Zealand and the UK use the term bicarb soda, while the US refers to it as baking soda.
@Crookie, Yes, you are correct about the bicarb soda and baking soda
I was referring to Baking powder which is similar to Bicarb but not the same. They are often next to each other on the shelves in the grocery store , look the same and confusingly are often packaged very similarly. However, . Bicarb is much stronger and can be used for many things - I could be wrong but I think baking powder is generally only used for baking
Yes, you are right @Colin. My bad I read baking powder and my brain went baking soda. I cooked an American recipe last week that used baking soda and had to Google what that was as I use baking powder and bi-carb soda, 2 completely different things as you say.
I would tell them immediately so you can agree on how to resolve it.
Accidents happen and I’ve found HO to be understanding. It actually helped me not worry about it as much.
Tell them soon. I had two frightening mishaps recently. I had been using the HO’s shower squeegee on their shower glass. A few days into the sit as the sun shone through it, I noticed scratches all over the glass. I practically had heart attack thinking I would have to offer to pay for a replacement. Baking soda did nothing to remove the scratches. I texted the HO, absolutely distraught, thinking it would cost me a fortune . They told me to calm down — that it had been like that! I practically cried from relief.
Then, on the cat sit where I am now, the cat scratched up a corner of their
carpet. Again I felt terrible! I told the HO by text and she said her old cat
had also scratched up the carpet and that it wasn’t my fault. It was the
cat’s fault! Oh, the relief!
Oh I know that feeling so well. Where you’ve been in a home for 4-5 days already, and then suddenly you see a cracked tile, a scuffed wall, or a chipped something or other. Your heart stops - thinking: was that US???
