Listings slipping through the Net

I’m guessing THS insurers aren’t willing to take the risk .

Funny, given that dogs are probably more inherently dangerous than some of these snakes. Well, at least a greater potential for more significant injuries.

Probably some THS lawyer is scares of snakes. Still wonder what falls under “constrictor”.

I saw a listing today in Edinburgh, which breaks the 3rd party rule, and I have reported it to admins, and let home owner know too.

“A cleaner attends to manage the Airbnb rooms and shared bathroom”

shared bathroom??? what is she thinking??

“I occasionally host Airbnb guests in separate rooms within the property (there are three in total). These are short, well-managed stays, and guests are typically quiet and respectful. They do not have access to your bedroom, the kitchen, or the sitting room, so your space remains entirely your own”

if they are double or twin rooms that mean sharing bathroom with possibly 6 other people! strangers.

I am interested to know the HO’s response @RedLassie. I wonder if it will lean towards ‘I didn’t know that was a breach’ or ‘well, nobody else complained’.

@RedLassie did it have reviews? Accommodation prices being the way they are in Edinburgh I wouldn’t be surprised if some people would put up with it.

Perhaps the shared bathroom is only an issue with Airbnb rooms.

She is a complete newbie

She hasn’t replied to me. Just deleted my “application” which is as expected.

It was only done to communicate with her, not an application as such

I told her she can expect to hear from THS but truthfully I bet they do nothing

I also suggested solution would be to have no airbnb bookings on those 5 days

I thought of another question @RedLassie . When you get a response from THS, can you let us know if you were instructed to verify your account by answering some questions before they would look into your report? Cheers

I think for a person that has no experience with snakes they might not be able to recognize the different between a venomous snake and a boa. This could be a loophole that house owners might use to get their snakes some petsitters.

I used to own 2 diamond pythons 2m(approximately 6feet in length) and I did get bitten a few times but they really just drew a bit of blood. Besides that I would consider them quite safe.

I believe it’s very difficult to get a permit to keep “hot” snakes as pets. I couldn’t imagine anyone with those kinds of snakes would ever use THS to find someone to care for them.

As for constrictors, be it small boas and pythons, and corn snakes, king snakes…, their bite doesn’t hurt as bad as a dog or cat bite, or nasty cat scratch. Heck, you can be bitten by turtles too.

Anyway, I still don’t understand why that, apparently, snakes are a no-no for THS.

I will do. but I don’t plan to jump though any hoops for them, I have done my bit in letting them know.

I guess you just never know what kind of people you end up snagging on THS.

I had a house sitter not inform me about her dog being a resource guarding dog of the bed, and yet it lunged at me on the first night. When I brought it up with her she simply said that the dog was a little snappy…

I think a simple report sit button on every sit would be good. That way if there was a sit that was a little… Not right with THS, then sitters could report it. If more than 10-20 people reported it, then it would be investigated by the THS support.

Would save tons of time checking out all the house sit listings as they claim they do, and could put it in the hands of the house sitters to regulate which house sits are against policy etc. Also would take no time away from house sitters. I have stopped reporting because the whole process takes 10 min minimum to say that someone is doing something wrong. A quick button click would save all that and I would be more willing to click it

Eh no, or why would she mention it at all, also she didn’t reply to me to explain this if that had been the case.

I just reported a listing with third parties and had an email saying we’re looking into it and thanks for sending. No mention of verification. #justforinfo

Thanks for that info. Curious isn’t it?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know that we’ve introduced an option to report listings and/or profiles on both app and web platforms.
