Low Applications Limbo

I ignore the low applications label, because so many sits have them.

Hi @Carla
Thanks for explanation although I do think that the one that I was referring to had been on for much less than 48 hours

I am confused now though - When looking through my Saved Searches I always click on “New” and look at all of them until I reach the ones with “Low Applications” as I assume I will have already seen them. However, I have just noticed that, among this list, there are ones with no badge on at all. These appear to be randomly placed throughout quite a few pages of “Low” ones. I am wondering why this is happening and whether I, amongst others, are missing out on reading these?
Thanks

Would these be ones with no applications …?

No, I have just looked at 3 random ones, 2 had 3 applicants and the other had 4 applicants

@Itchyfeet so not new but they have 3 or more applications, so therefore not ‘low’. No badge must mean normal???

Hi @Itchyfeet, according to Carla’s explanation these sits with no badge must be the ones in limbo between not being New after 24 hours but having more than 0-1 applicants to qualify as Low. As @Timshazz says, they must be normal !

Hi @temba and @Timshazz
This is all confusing.
I am hoping that my assumption is correct in that I will already have read them within the past 24 hours as I stop looking as soon as I see the first “Low Applications” sit.

I’m thinking you will have already read them @Itchyfeet as a New listing in your saved search.

This one covers all the bases.

@Carla How many badges can one listing have?

This many? :face_with_monocle:

@jcvbva @Carla @weirdholyman I just saw one with the low applications and new tags and the listing was from someone with a premium membership. My guess is if they boost it when they are low on applications and near their start date it would trigger all three tags.

The low applications badge simply sends subliminal messages that say “unwanted, unattractive, end of line, no one wants wants me.” Not good for the HO at all. Then adding “new & unwanted” or “new, unwanted and panicking for a sitter.” makes it an even less appealing prospect. Someone in marketing has lost their marbles with this :crazy_face:

@weirdholyman I wonder if the HO is a premium member and has boosted the listing. Very strange.

When I started out as a brand new sitter with no reviews to my name, I’d go after the Low Applications sits in my local area to get my foot in the door. It is easy enough to determine if a sit has low applications by seeing the number of applications is 0 or 1.

I agree, I think all THS needs to do is flip it around, e.g. change “low applications” to “be first to apply” and “last minute” to “available soon” … in other words cast into terms that would motivate rather than demotivate a sitter.

Exactly @BruceT - I was thinking the very same thing :raised_hands:t3: #positivereinforcement

@weirdholyman Thank you for the tag, I will send this along to the Product team as I sent the last example as well.
The ‘new’ and ‘last minute’ tag can be together on a listing as the listing might be both new (less than 24 hours since posted) and last minute due to the dates, but I am not sure why it would have all three! Great spot thank you.
If you have the link to the listing that would be super helpful, feel free to DM me.

I’ve seen some with all three tags too. I figured they were making changes to the live system rather than a test system.

@ziggy That reminds me of a scene in the U.S. movie “Office Space,” in which Jennifer Anniston’s character, an employee of a soulless chain restaurant, was bereated by her boss for not having enough pins and badges on (which is supposed to express her excitement for being at work). They called it “flair.” It’s a hilarious scene.

@Crosswords_and_puzzles yes I do remember that movie and the scene. Absolutely love any movie with Jennifer Aniston and she certainly played that particular scene well, very funny. Good pickup!
