It does not depend on time zone. Sits in the Central European Time zone are gone just as fast for me as for Australians or Americans, probably swiped up by bots.
The problem on THS is that there are relatively few members in Central Europe. So any listing generates interest from members all over the world.
A little different: a sit posted at 10 a.m. in CET, it’s useless to us in North America because that is 4 a.m. on the east coast & 1 a.m. on the west coast. By the time we’re awake, and click on the alert? Nothing shows: we don’t even know what was posted or where it was.
That should be rare. I guess that most European sits are posted when most Americans are awake.
The problem is not the time zones. The cause of the problem is that THS has many sitters that want to travel to continental Europe or to Asia, and that THS has few owner-members there.
Pietkuip - Not true! Almost the only time we can book sits in really sought-after locations in Europe at good sits is when we are IN Europe.
Right now? Would LOVE to have a Paris sit. And we have “favorited” quite a few. Some of those HAVE listed sits RIGHT when we would want them. If we click on the E-Mail notification sent to us? Nothing listed. We only see them if we take out dates and look at general listings and they display “reviewing applicants.” Otherwise we wouldn’t even know they had been posted.
In the last two weeks at least a dozen sits that would have been perfect for us were already “reviewing applicants” before we saw a notification, no longer displayed in our saved search. Right NOW there are five sits in Paris “reviewing applications:” never saw a notification.
We generally fly into Paris or London from North America. Not once have we been able to apply for a good sit in central London or central Paris while in North America. I can tell you where we live 1/2 the year the posts for great sits are already "reviewing applicants within 15 minutes of posting. I agree - there probably are a lot of members using bots to robo apply. We’ve heard HO complain about weird applications, suspecting that is the case
There simply aren’t enough sits in popular cities like London and Paris, or in Asia.
That said, I saw a couple of London sits in the last few weeks, though I didn’t apply, because of date conflicts.
I’d previously landed a London sit from the East Coast of the U.S. But I’m not wedded to specific locations and I happened to see the sit randomly. The host was going to video chat with more than one sitter, but decided to offer me the sit after ours. They’d had many sitters before.
When we did an experiment with the notifications here, the delay was the same on both sides of the Atlantic, about seven minutes.
It is the same for me: when I click on such notifications in French or Italian cities, they are gone. THS must be sending out notifications when the sit has already reached reviewing status. It is incredibly irritating. It is why I did not renew.
I think it’s less about the delay and more about the time of day that HOs post their listings. If they post their listing at 10 am CET, people in the US are asleep so odds are it’s full before they wake up - same with the rest of europe. This is, of course, a completely different issue from them sending out alerts for sits that are full. That’s a coding error on their end and likely legacy from way back in the day.
We’ve had half a dozen great sits in London over the years but all were booked “over there.” You’re at a slight 3 hour advantage to we west-coasters but anywhere that’s in a really popular location will always be hard to spot before it’s gone no matter where one is.
I do think THS should still display the “reviewing applications” posts when they send out a Notification. It’s really furstrating to get several Notifications and find nothing there.
Hi Jenny
It does indeed state “Previously contacted” but you still cannot see what was said. Is this the finished article as we do need to know what we have said when corresponding before.
It may not be that we have applied, it may be in response to their invitation.
Instead of including useless information, why cannot we see what we have written in the past?
Thanks
I just wanted to pop on and apologise, as I didn’t clarify that the update that I mentioned was in relation to the website rather than the app, so those of you using the app won’t see any changes.
There will be app changes coming soon, and when I’ve got any updates, I’ll share them here.
Huge apologies for any confusion, that’s on me, and I’ll make sure to clarify next time
Improvement suggestion: more detailed preferences for notifications. I want to receive emails if someone sends an applications or sends me a message, but for example I don’t care if someone simply saves my listing, but I can’t see how to separate the two (at least from mobile), it seems that I either have to get notifications for all of that or none of it.
Hi @Jenny we reported on another thread that notifications on the app have recently stopped coming. Can you please give us an update on when that will be fixed.
