You can buy Safety Wing insurance if you’re a Brit (& many other nationalities) and have already left the country on your travels. You can turn it off and on month by month based on destination. That was one of the only solutions I could find as a resident (but not citizen) of Turkey and a British citizen (but not resident) to solve the issue when we’re sitting abroad (which is a lot of the time). JIC it’s useful. #insuranceissues
It is a huge risk having no insurance, I have said on here before, because I had a job with the Ombudsman, sorting out complaints by people who got themselves into ridiculous situations for the sake of not paying the cost of the policy. Which would have covered medical expenses, flight changes and extra accommodation in this case. You need to buy it as soon as you have a ticket or exemptions will apply. I am off to Thailand and Australia for 2 months and even in the doctors getting my jabs, the nurse asked, have you got travel cover and does it include repatriation!
Good luck with the rest of the trip.
I am glad to hear that everything is going well now. Enjoy Australia.
Thanks @Smiley Yes, he was in pain but all is good now. I know he’s better because he was joking and whining last night about how I abandoned him and how he needed his wife to take care of him. He’s saying this as he’s chuckling. We stayed on video chat and for an hour watched korean drama together. So all is good on our end.
Very important to get out of country emergency insurance. Google and you will see examples (Blue Cross). Alternatively, if you or your spouse work for a company and you are on a health plan then you may be eligible for out of country emergency insurance- just look at your health plan information.
I broke my wrist in Palm Spring, California, Oct 2024. X ray and 1/2 cast, 4 hrs in Emergency, paid $1,900 USD and got a bill for $83,447.60. Still waiting for travel insurance. 3 plates and 16 screws installed in Aus for about $13,000
@Keith1 I’m so sorry to hear that. I don’t even know what to say. $83,447? holy cow.
