I created a YouTube video to deal with rejections from family size in Australia 🦘

Update: My family is reunited again today! My hubby’s emergency kidney stone surgery went well and he had his stent removed a couple days ago. After having to leave my husband and youngest son behind to take care of his dad, the rest of us left Kuala Lumpur last Friday to make it to a pet-sit that started that next day. They joined us today and we are reunited in Sydney.

On another less serious note, our Sydney sit ends in a month and I’m having a hard time getting dates to line up with slim pickings for family friendly sits in Australia. I’ve received 5 invites for places I want to go, but it’s all over the same holiday period so I had to decline them ugh. For the other ones starting mid-January, I’m getting rejections due to my family size. So I’m trying to up my game and created a YouTube video tonight that quickly showcases some of the animals we’ve cared for, took me less than 2 hours to put together and have launch it public and have sent messages to all of the pet parents who have not responded yet to take a look at it. I’m going to attach that YouTube video to all of my applications going forward and will report back if it worked in my favor or if it had the opposite effect.

What a lovely video! It sure must be an asset for hosts!

I guess there are less travels in general in the months after Christmas. It seems from forum that there are more competition between platforms in that area, with some being free for hosts? I would think a familiy would be great for many sits, and with big kids especially with 2+ dogs as it seems they would get great play-opportunities. Best of luck, happy holidays and speedy recovery to hubby!

It’s the end of the summer holidays in Australia and like people here once the kids go back to school it’s mainly retired people who go on holiday. There will probably be a lack of space in accommodation to suit a family. I do hope you have a plan B for somewhere to stay. Good luck, glad you are reunited.

Hi @Chrissy, plan B is to pay for an AirBnb for a month. It’s no problem. We just love having company from the animals. Monthly stays get a big discount. Then after the month, we can fly to Manilla, then back to Korea for cherry blossom :cherry_blossom: season

That’s good then, most of the houses I sit in have antiques and valuable items owners would worry about with a family of children. One guy was a Potter and each piece sells for £2000 + I didn’t know until I got there that they were displayed throughout the ground floor I was very careful!

Retired people seem to have converted their spare bedrooms into sewing, office etc. Although there are 4 or 5 only 2 are set up to sleep in.

I know you don’t have insurance but my partner and I were in a road accident in France, his bill for a stay in hospital was £27,000 plus room and food and £500 for the ambulance. We were in the EU then so it was no problem with a European Health card. He didn’t get seperate insurance. He had a house there so recovery was easy, but it was 3 weeks before we could come home.

I did have insurance as I worked for Aviva, who would have even flown me home if needed and put a plane on standby at Southampton just in case.

Lots of things to be aware of.

Best wishes for happy holidays

We loved the video @IHeartAnimals ! We definitely have some similar videos and photos. My boys have been putting together some photo compilations of pets to send to hosts, they could definitely put together something like this.

@Chrissy wow, there more of these medical situations than I thought. As soon as I landed in Sydney last week, I did buy medical travel insurance. Yes, a day late dollar short but it’s better late than never and I don’t have to worry as much about the rest of our international travels. Lesson learned

Hi @Debbie yes, we should capitalize on how much fun children can give animals. It didn’t take long to put the clips together. Not sure if you have a video editor but capcut has a free version you can use if needed. I received a message from one of the applicants I sent and she said she loved the video and we set up a video call tomorrow morning. Yay!

Reading this in the US and so envious of “European Health Card.”

It was replaced after Brexit by a UK Global Health card, but I know people who have tried it and it’s not been accepted. It probably doesn’t work quite the same, as some hospitals in France are privately run. It does tell you when you apply that you should have your own insurance. They are getting stricter on travel cover due to the cost of treatment. I was shocked that the room and food were charged as an extra on top of medical costs

I believe the European Health Card only covers same coverage as inhabitants in that country. So if for instance the French would need separate coverage for something, so will the person using the EHC.

It is, I believe, a part of the Free movement-work among European countries, to promote free movement you would also get national health coverage. But the coverage can differ between countries and how they manage it - what is public responsibility and what is private. If one believe in right to public health services for all or in market based for profit-care.

Ofc, also for public health care there could be a deductible. But very far from $83000, probably.

Either way - one way or the other, be prepared for an emergency. You never know where the lightning might strike.

@IHeartAnimals I am pretty sure that the boys have been using capcut. I know we have some great videos and photos we can use, including younger son running around the cathedral square in Le Mans in the pouring rain with a terrier who loved hosepipes and water! Your image of the rainy walk reminded me of it. Lots of ball throwing action shots too!

Great news that one of your applications has resulted in a video call after receiving the video.

So glad you are all now reunited @IHeartAnimals and that your husband is going well.

Your YouTube video is great and it sounds like it’s hit the right note with an owner. All the best for your chat with them today.

@Debbie leave it to the younger generation to know so much about technology. Until just recently, I had never even heard of capcut. Well, the video call went well today, they said they loved the video, and we confirmed the petsit. Yay!!!

Thanks so much @temba . My hubby is feeling a lot better and it’s a relief to be together again. I asked my son if he missed me and he said it felt like we weren’t even separated because we did video calls for hours a day.
