I created a YouTube video to deal with rejections from family size in Australia 🦘

I didn’t see the first one because it wasn’t family friendly but yes, the dogs in the shopping trolley are adorable

@IHeartAnimals I used to filter for “Family Friendly”, but have stopped doing so now that my boys are adult sized fairly sensible teens, similar to your children. I’ve had success getting sits that aren’t marked as “Family Friendly”. I just look for evidence that the house is potentially big enough, for example number of bedrooms is mentioned, or multiple beds are pictured. I think sometimes hosts are reluctant to accept families with younger children, but might be open to sensible teenagers.

Sometimes the “Family Friendly” ones aren’t suitable for us as there is no way my almost 6 foot tall 15 year old will fit in a toddler bed!

I do usually tend to avoid applying for sits that state they are looking for a person or a couple, although we are currently on a sit that said exactly that!

Just thought this might give you a few more options.

@Debbie hmmm, you’ve got a point there. I’ll remove my family filter to see what else is available

Hi @IHeartAnimals, hope you are enjoying Oz. You have me on a mission now to make sure you find a sit!

Did you see the family friendly one at Palm Beach, Queensland, from January to February? Suits your dates. The reviews are from families so a possibility? Palm Beach is AMAZING, I almost live there, and you would love it I’m sure. Easy to get to anywhere from there, fabulous beaches and lifestyle. Not sure it would still be available but it is still listed. One problem with Aussie Housesitters is sometimes homeowners don’t remove their listings when filled but worth a try. There is also one at Shoalhaven Heads which is a beautiful area also. Good luck with everything and have fun :christmas_tree:

Edited to remove listing dates as per the Community Rules.

@ziggy Happy holidays! I love this platform, you guys are scouring sits for me. No I didn’t see the palm beach one. I went to the app and didn’t see that listing. I’m keeping my eyes open though.

I’m catsitting in Sydney right now. For the past 2 months I’ve been looking for additional sits in both Sydney and Melbourne from mid January till end of Feb, however there have been few on THS. A little more on AussieHouseSitters, but those get swamped with applications. So even as a solo sitter, I’ve had no luck so far with lining up more sits via either platform.

@Bluehorse I noticed that the pet parents on aussiehousesitters are really bad at not responding and having almost no photos of the house or rooms. Do you know if that platform allows overlapping sits? The current sit has the wrong end date and cannot fix it in the system

I don’t think they care at all at whether you do overlapping sits or whatever you come up with. There are no such rules on AussieHouseSitters - no 5 appl limit, etc etc.

At the same time, yes often hardly any photos, very limited descriptions, and one may or may not get a response. So far I have no luck on that website at all

@Bluehorse I’m in Sydney right now too and I have no idea how I secured this sit on aussiehousesitters. I’ve gotten so many messages back stating they were swamped with applications. The dog is super easy to care of because she’s got a doggie door and doesn’t get her first snack until noon and then dinner. One walk when it’s cool. The pet parents picked me and my kids up front the airport, bought extra toilet paper for us, told us to eat anything we want, gave us christmas cookies as gifts, told us to use as much of the air conditioner as we wanted, and gave us the keys to their car (not part of their listing), and told me over and over again how grateful they were to have us watch their dog. My goodness, we’ve had some amazing hosts in the past but this above and beyond.

I also have a host in Sydney, who left a mountain of toilet paper! ;-)) & a Christmas gift. Yes, aircon as well. Don’t have use of a car though. Two kitties, incl. a kitten, that are not too difficult to look after
