Free one day pass for anyone who is interested

Awesome thanks for that. Been looking to visit Melford Hall with our sit dogs and was too tight to pay the £11 fee for the car park!

Thanks for that pointer @Newt. Will see if I can score a pass for Ham House & Gardens tomorrow.

I don’t think the free offer includes car parking?

NT membership is fairly pricey, but I’d definitely recommend it. It opens up access to some beautiful old houses, castles, gardens, and areas of outstanding natural beauty. It usually pays for itself pretty quickly in parking fees alone. And of course, it’s all a great excuse to stop for a cream tea in one of the cafes…

Most places include parking with admission

@CRU Even on the free offer? I can’t find any info on their webpage.

Under the T&C
6. This National Trust autumn pass does not include parking at places, unless the price of parking is included within the standard admission price.

Most National Trust properties (houses etc) have no additional charge for parking. The parking charge is found more at open spaces, such as in the Lake District.
If you plan to go to Wakehurst there is a whopping great parking charge which caught me out, even though I’m a member of both the NT (a life member) and a partner garden of Kew, which runs the place.

Is this open to foreigners or must you be a UK resident ?

Hmm will need to check that out, still not paying £11 for the privilege of parking, especially when the price of their coffees are usually on the high side! That’s the 50% scottish blood in me.

Will find somewhere else to walk the dogs if that is the case. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Most NT places (including I believe Medford Hall) do have free parking. It’s just the really popular areas like the Lake District, also I know that Bickling has car parking charges stated in the prices section of their web page.

Click the link and try, see what happens

We’ve visited a lot of NT properties in the UK over the years using our Australian membership. Great value! Only issue is we have to pay for car parking at most of them (unless I can sweet talk them) as do non-members. Some definitely have free parking but we’ve found quite a few don’t.

If you join the Scottish National Trust it is actually cheaper than the England one.
You can use it to get in to any property just the same.

That is really good to know, thank you

One day pass successfully used today. Slight change of plan as Melford Hall doesn’t open until midday and for me that is half a day wasted so we went to Ickworth estate instead. No parking charge! Lovely 90 minute walk around the estate rounded off with coffee and cookie! The weather was glorious too.

Checked out the cost of Scottish membership v English and as one of us is over 60 we get a senior rate with the Scottish membership too - saving of £50+ on an annual pass!

Very happy with both tips from @Newt & @Louise7 :sunglasses:

The equivalent is Historic Scotland which gets you into the English Heritage and Cadw (in Wales) sites for free.
I have membership of National Trust for Scotland, Historic Scotland, RHS, Art Fund and Historic Houses so I’ve always got days out wherever I am in the UK.
