Need help any advice

I have been eyeing this sit that has been up for quite a long time. It’s in my hometown and I would love to help out but can’t message owner. It’s a family member and I that are included in our profile. So we can separate. Can any of the community members help out?? I can see that the post is from a first time member. Would love to welcome them in the community. I know the reason why overlapping sits stopped but I see many many sits that aren’t fulfilled. I would love to take on the sit so If anyone can help would really appreciate

Thank you.

It sounds as if you are talking about doing two separate sits rather than overlapping.

For this, you would have to have two separate memberships.

I don’t understand the question :face_with_spiral_eyes:
If you are interested in doing the sit, why don’t you just apply for it? Do you have questions you wanted to ask before applying? If you apply, then the owner will be able to contact you and you can discuss them before deciding whether to accept.

Yes, I understand but apart of me doesn’t see the point in getting a separate account since this will be a one time thing. I only wanted to help the homeowner out since I’m nearby but I can’t message them so was wondering if anyone could message them for me. I don’t necessarily plan to do this again.

What are the dates?

Since this is your hometown, look for clues as to who the owners are, and perhaps you can contact them another way. Maybe you recognize the neighborhood, the exact home? Can you find a phone number, email address, or mail them a letter?

One time, I could see in the listing that one of the bedrooms looked like it was rented out as an Airbnb, and I was right! I found the property on Airbnb and was able to reach out to the owner thru Airbnb, since I could not apply to the sit on THS (overlapping rule).

Note: no guests were in the Airbnb suite during the sit!

June 22 to August 13

I have 2 sittings during that time so would not be able to write to the HOs.

I think you will find it difficult to find someone on the Forum who is not “busy” during those dates to be able to contact the HOs on your behalf

Good luck

We also have sits confirmed over that time period and so we wouldn’t be able to contact the host .

@No_pineapples if you save the sit as a favourite the host may notice and contact you .

I still don’t understand why the OP doesn’t just apply for the sit.
Are you on a sit now, that overlaps, and you want to leave that one and go do the other while the “family member” finishes the one you’re both on? …Does that count as a breach of terms with the owner you’re now sitting for, who contracted for both of you?
So you want some other member of the forum, who doesn’t actually intend to apply for that sit, to write to the HO (if you can’t, how could they?) and tell them you want to talk to them?
Even if you got in touch with them and went to do the sit, it sounds like it couldn’t be an official TH sit because you technically can’t do an overlap so there’d be no way to put it through on this platform.

I guess what @Silversitters said – fave it, although I also guess they couldn’t invite you anyway because with an overlapping sit you’re technically unavailable.

I dunno, I’m still confused. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

FYI for folks who are wondering how this might work: If the sitter has overlapping days between sits one and two, the second host could potentially shorten their sit officially, trusting that the sitters (presumably a pair) will split up and one of them will show up on the original start date and do the overlapping days off the books. The risk is, those days are not covered by THS. But maybe a host would rather risk that vs. get no sitter, if they’re not getting (good) bites.

I understand the poster’s request for someone to message the host on their behalf, because they can’t apply if they’ve already got a sit with overlapping dates. But personally, I won’t help in this case, because the hosts are first-timers. I don’t know that they would be making a well-informed choice.
