Nervously awaiting applications

I’ve been a member just over a year but recently moved to a new area. I had several sitters at my previous location with some dates easier to secure a sitter than others. However, this go-round has been more challenging.

I have two dates quickly approaching…one long and one short sit.

I’d like to know how close to the departure date HOs will wait before securing a sitter elsewhere. Also, any feedback on my listing would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Hello @legendvictoria & welcome :waving_hand:t3: A few things you could do to help attract sitters. Change the cover photo to the stunning sunset or one of your pup with his ear up. Change the tagline to “Old school Arizona charm, golf & chill.” or “Easy pets near cute town & golf” something a little more specific than you have now. Do the pets all sleep in those crates? How long can they be left alone? If it’s not accessible by public transport than probably only US sitters will apply right now. You have good reviews but if I was being eagle eyed then your last one didn’t review you and you didn’t review him, was there an issue? Could you leave a vehicle for use especially for the long sit? Could you make it family friendly to open it up? It sounds easy, house looks clean and comfy, it may just be you’re up against lots of competition right now. Make some tweaks, pause the listing and press go again and you’ll be a “new” sit at the top that way. #bestofluck

Some of your profile is written beautifully, but there are a number of essential details that you have left out of your profile, that a sitter needs to know in order to apply… because they’ll just click away and choose a different sit that already revealed these details in their profile. These things are essential to know before applying.

Sophie’s medication - there is no indication of what that entails. Is it simply tablets? Or is it injections or something else? What is her health problem?

You’ve mentioned the pup & kitties in the responsibilities, please do not use those words in your profile, given they are much older. A lot of sitters won’t sit pups/kittens because they need a loo break every hour, and it’s a 24hr a day role to entertain them, it’s non-stop, hyper hyper hyper. So sitters may click away at that point, without reading lower down to discover their actual ages are much older. It’s fine to use those words when chatting/messaging with someone after that, but not in your profile, because you’ll have less applicants.

How long Sophie can be left for, in between loo breaks? You need to mention that too.

Your home and location section gives the indication that the nearest food shop is at Casa Grande which is a 15min drive away, because it is the only distance/time that is mentioned. Is that right, or is there a closer shop for food? If so, put how far it is.

You’ve also mentioned other place names, but with no distances/times, so a sitter may conclude that you deliberately left out that info, because it’s quite a journey away. Is that a correct assumption? If not, change it. Put the distances/times in.

Hope that helps

@HappyDeb Thank you for your feedback. This is most helpful!

When I set up my profile, I followed the guidelines/suggestions provided by THS. All of the tweaks that I’ve made in my listing over my year with THS have been from what I’ve learned here in the forum. I should have come here sooner but better late than never

You and @Cuttlefish have given me a perspective that is so helpful.

Btw…my “senior dog” literally takes one potty break in the backyard enclosure a day and along with my “senior cats” she sleeps all day long. They are the laziest bunch ever lol

Thanks again!

That looks great, but you’ve still been a little vague with the location, “located in town” doesn’t give an indication as to whether you are in the town itself or exactly how many minutes drive away you are.

Also, I’d also add the words “very-easy” or “easy and simple” to the bit about giving her the medication, because a sitters eyes will be drawn to those words. Because it will help a sitter to relax if they haven’t cared for a dog with seizures before but are open to learning, likewise we’ve sat a dog with seizures before that was not as quite straight forward as your scenario, so we’d notice those words too. Fantastic how you’ve put how long it’s been since she had a seizure to put it into perspective.

Hope that helps

That’s much better and it says “new” which is super helpful for getting sitters attention! Great advice from @happydeb as always. #fingerscrossed

@HappyDeb I want to be completely transparent but had the perception that sitters didn’t want to read lengthy listings. Therefore, I tried to keep everything concise.

It’s so helpful to know what sitters actually prefer.

Again, I truly appreciate your feedback!

Actually different sitters might prefer different things, so in that regard the goal is moving as one make alterations, I’m afraid. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: That being said, IMO you have been given great advice. Best of luck!
