I hope you are correct.
Canada, the USA, and the Caribbean all have the same country code. I donât know if this is the problem or it is something else but I cannot receive a text from THS.
Hope youâre right.
Hi @ElsieDownie Iâm tagging @Therese she will pick up this up with you when she is back online âŚ
Thank you, howâs New York?
Thank you Angela. I think we are ok but better to check.
New York is fantastic but freezing. We are moving to Chicago tomorrow, gluttons for punishment. Picking up a RV and taking it to Orlando. Relocation rental deal, cheap as chips. $9 a night. Iâll post all about it if I survive driving a 30 foot bus! Hope you and yours are all good.
Youâre living my dream ⌠a 30ft Bus, I wanted to take my Holly and just hit the road, problem was a âNot On My Watchâ scuppered that plan.
Relocation sounds brilliant $9 a night? Canât beat that.
Safe and happy travels, name the bus and send a pic.
uh Madam, we need more information please.
That sounds amazing. I could fly to Chicago to pick up an RV
When and if I ever come back that isâŚ
scratch that, found it
Iâm also a classic member and therefore might be exempt on a legacy basis (grandfathering). However, my concern is if THS decided to add some type of distinction for those who did (or did not) agree to the background check. As much as I would hope that my history of sits and reviews would override that, it would still create a negative designation, a two-tiered class system. That is my personal opinion.
I must say that, had I not seen this subject and thread, which Iâve contributed to, I would still be unaware that I was being asked for personal information. I havenât been asked for anything, such as social security number, to enable background checks to be done by an apparently little known company. Where is the request?
This is to see if we like it. If we do we are buying a small RV and using that between sits.
It is something also in my basket of possibilities. Need to do a bit more across the waters before I commit to the ground again.
Are you looking to stay on this side a while?
Yes. Two maybe three years. Juggling between Canada, USA and Mexico to beat the immigration. 6 months in each place at a time. With little visits back home every six months for check ups and house maintenance.
Opps forgot a month in Ecuador is booked this autumnâŚâŚ
Nice! Apologies we are off topic but it happens.
@ElsieDownie we should move to travel talk but I am looking at doing that in the UK Europe side but have to come back to the states for a two month sit and possibly a another long term where I am now.
Life is good.
As a couple who resides in the US, our background check, and various verifications were automatically processed when we initially joined in October. It never occurred to us that other members were not similarly required to comply with as thorough a membership verification process. We found it to be relatively painless, and are pleased to offer HOs peace of mind, that weâve been completely vetted through THS. The way companies do business is forever changing. Procedures from the past may not provide the highest degree of service, going forward. Trusted Housesitterâs improvements, should prove to be advantageous for all participants in the future.
I am very disappointed with this requirement and the extremely poor manner in which it has been communicated.
- The lack of notification about the decision to make this a mandatory requirement
- The inaccurate notification, stating that all sitters must do this, however the link is only for US members or those with US ID. The FAQ clarifies this but this is not provided in the original request/ requirement.
- The lack of courtesy and respect shown to members outside of the US when sending this information to all members, I wasted time attempting to provide information that I am unable to submit.
- As noted by many other users, this is not information that the authorities suggest should be shared with private companies.
- I have other documentation such as Australian Police Checks which has always been adequate in the past, but it appears that this is no longer going to be enough.
Trusted Housesitters please immediately post an email to all of your very confused and frustrated non US members.
Whilst it would be good to fall under any âGrandfathered inâ scheme this isnât going to happen. I am a Classic member who has been with THS since 2010. I received a personally addressed email on the 7th February headed up âAction Requiredâ stating that I had to complete my ID check as it is now mandatory.
There are now many posts from sitters who are prepared to leave. I am wondering if we need to set up an Action Group to try and change this outcome?
Is THS going to change its name to âVerified Housesittersâ as trust no longer seems to be enough?
Hi @ElsieDownie If it is showing on your dashboard as âfully verifiedâ, it shouldnât give you the option to upload anything further, so you would not need to go through the process again. I hope this helps.
Kind regards Therese
Mine is also shown as fully verifiedâŚ.
As a HO, I have been reading this thread with interest and also some concern as i see so many sitters very uncomfortable with it. I would really like some clarity on what this provides the HO with and what additional benefits there are from the checks that were done previously.
Iâm assuming that these new background check rules have been put in place because TH deems that they give the HO extra security and peace of mind. So if the Sitters who have been here for a long while are being âgrandfatheredâ in and do not have to provide these new checks, is TH is saying they are âless secure than the newer onesâ as they have not gone through the enhanced and tighter checks? If so, is this fair on HO? Will we know if the higher level enhanced checks have been done on a sitter?
If the âgrandfatheredâ in ones are not less secure than the newer ones, then is this all fair on the Sitter? Should i be looking for an oldie with a lot of reviews, or a newbie with no reviews and a new background check? The only applicants I have had for my current listing have been ones with no or very few reviews and it concerned me as that is usually where the âtrustâ element comes from in the exchange - maybe I should be happy as they have had more checks!
Please note, these are questions I am raising to help get factual clarity for everyone on the things I donât understand, and not a comment on whether I agree or disagree on anything.
