No indoor pictures

I saw a new listing, and have applied but apprehensive. No indoor pictures of home. I know the area and there are plenty of outdoor pictures. It is a long sit, out of winter, that timing works for me but do I just ask for indoor pictures?

Yes…

I would skip it. The accommodations are what they are offering in this exchange. If they don’t think sitters need to see photos of the inside of the home, they probably don’t view it as an exchange.

I’d report the listing as THS requires indoor photos…I’d also message the HO letting them know they MUST include indoor photos eg the room you’ll stay in etc.
Either

  1. They’re new and didn’t realise
    Or
  2. They’re hiding indoors for reasons we can all guess.
    I’d ask about renovations etc….

It depends. If there are previous reviews that mention how clean, comfy and lovely the house is, then I might apply. If there are no previous reviews, or none mention the home specifically, then you can either ask for photos, or report them to THS for not having inside photos, or just skip as a red flag. Depends how much the sit is worth to you.

There are 2 reviews, from one repeat sitter in 2022. Then the HO was a couple. Now single. I guess she could say there are indoor pictures, since the cats are on a bed. But you only see the linens up close, no idea what size bed, what the rest of the room looks like. No pictures of kitchen or bathroom. No pictures that are not close ups of pets, except outdoors.

Ask for indoor pics AND report HOs to THS.

@Jenny Yet another listing that wasn’t vetted by THS. :frowning:

Bet there’s a pool

No. But there is a hot tub.

And I was going to say pool and/or hot tub

Pretty sure I saw that listing too! And skipped it. Major red flag.

So in conversation on THS, I mention that she did not post any indoor pictures. She said “I didn’t”. then “I can”. Then talks about the guest having their own bedroom and bathroom. She asked if I wanted to stay in July, then again next May. Too weird.

Per the rules there should be indoor photos. Maybe they had them up and took them down? While there are legit privacy reasons that a homeowner may not want people just browsing interior photos of their home, not having them on an ACTIVE listing would be at least a minor red flag to me.

I’d ask for them for sure, but probably just not apply.

The very first international sit I applied on had no indoor pictures. It was in the city where I was born so I was very interested in the sit so asked the homeowner to send me pics via email. She had no problem with that and I got the sit and a few years later did a repeat sit. It was one of my best sits as I was able to renew contact and visit relatives I hadn’t seen in many years.

They’re too lazy to make the bed, clean up the kitchen for the pictures. They took the easy way and thought people would just apply anyways.

I’ve seen more of this lately and I don’t like it. Sitters have to know th state and type of accommodation they’re applying for.

There needs to be a basic guide of pics to include in a listing so that sitters know.

There are all these pages with sections to fill in when HOs do their welcome guide; what if TH also provided a checklist of required photos, needed for a listing to be accepted?

THS already provides a list of photos a listing should include.

Unfortunately it seems, that you’re still able to publish the listing without these pics.

Oh, well then. Not a HO-member so I didn’t know. Yep, looks like people aren’t bothering to read the guidelines.

Or they just purposefully ignore them. This list comes up when making the listing, it is directly above the place where you add the pictures.
