No pet instructions given

I think it’s probably more of a problem if you’re not okay with it because entitled homeowners will do whatever they want. It’s only worth mentioning the things you won’t tolerate so you don’t end up playing their game.

To date I haven’t encountered any “entitled” HOs, although I’m sure that they exist. I haven’t had any problem with hosts that I’ve sat for either, perhaps that’s because I’m a male and my background. Or, perhaps I’ve just been lucky. I like to think it’s because I’m thorough with my due diligence, including a video call before confirming any sits.

If I see something in a listing that has any flags I don’t apply.

Happy with external security cameras though and they are very common in the UK.

There’s nothing wrong with any of these questions but I would discuss them over a video chat as opposed to in a written message, especially with a new HO. A lot can be lost in tone over messages. Regardless, if they balk at questions, I would take it as a bullet dodged sign.

I also just prefer clarity over ambiguity especially when it comes to caring for someone’s loved ones.

I feel that a lot depends on when and how you ask the questions.

When to ask the questions is not in the appliction other than possibly a mention that you want to be sure to provide and receive important information about you and their home and pet to achieve the best results for everyone and the pets.

How to ask - after you have booked the sit or in the final phases of consideration - can be prefaced with a simple “In order to provide the best possible care for your home and pets, I have a few quesions, please. Of course, please ask me any questions you may have. I have learned that by addressing and knowing important things in advance as completely and early as possible can prevent unnecessary hassles - especially hassles which might be expensive or hazardous to pets, you or me. With that in mind, I’d like to ask…” Or something like that.

Now, they know why you want to ask your questions and how it will benefit them and their pets.
