Notices from THS regarding "declined" applications

Hello, @CanadaDan Always happy to help and pass on the feedback for you.

Just to clarify a bit further to avoid any confusion, the email is the new email sent to all members on the platform. It’s a new email design by the team, rather than an email that only goes to new members. Apologies if my original post caused any confusion.

The team also mentioned if the owner decides they no longer need a sitter for the dates posted, if they decline their applications before they delete their dates then the automated decline application will be triggered. The emails are automatically triggered when an owner does certain actions on their account, but the team understand there can be edge cases and has taken your feedback on board for future consideration.

They will also look at the wording and review it. I will post back here any updates.

I hope that helps clarify things for you and thank you for your feedback and positive words about THS, they are much appreciated!

I honestly find it a little patronizing the automatic message THS send when owner chooses another. I am honestly NOT disheartening and wish the HO and SITTER a great sit . Words are important.

Agree Dan. It’s patronising as if our entire life depends on that application. More professional wording would be appropriate 'homeowner has completed their selection process and chosen another applicant for this sit."

It’s the wording that is patronising, not the fact application has been declined.

It is interesting the number of turns this discussion has taken since I started the thread three weeks ago. The comments, observations and recommendations have been useful and have generated helpful suggestions but, the original topic dealt with an issue quite different than the one being discussed now.

The original post was regarding a generic response I received from THS stating the homeowner had selected a different candidate for the advertised homesit when, in fact, the homeowner had cancelled the advertised sit for personal reasons. The homeowner sent a “declined” notice to any applicant and contacted me (and perhaps all applicants) beforehand.

My reason for posting this item (under the THS News and Feedback category) was to illustrate a pitfall with “generic” responses - this one triggered by a “declined” notification from the homeowner. I feel there was no need for THS to become involved at all - the matter was properly handled by the homeowner. Whether a “declined” notice was due to the selection of another applicant or because the homeowner had to withdraw the advertisement (or any other reason) is a moot point.

My Pet Sit has been cancelled by the HO due to a change in their family circumstances.
The cancellation is not an issue, perfectly understandable given the new circumstances.

I received a THS Notification email stating that “We’re sorry (my name) but (Home Owners name) has declined your application”.

Well actually no, this is not the case. The HO accepted & agreed my application.
And the follow-up wording in the THS email bore no relevance to what had occurred between myself & the HO.

Like your response. And as HO we could only choose one but it was a time where there was unlimited applicants. Five is too few. Believe some must sit on site all night for places like Rome for example. I do though take the time after 'decline" just to say hope you’ll consider us in future.

Thank you for replying @Berna

If I hear of any updates about the wording I will let you know. Thank you

I just got an email from THS:
“The sit that you applied for (or were invited to) is no longer available.”
“[…] has now removed their dates and is no longer looking for a sitter.”

So that was factual.
