I’d like to travel every month for 1-2 weeks at a time, but get no applicants. My house and remote location is best-suited for digital nomads, the type of sitters who would like a longer-term sit, as opposed to vacationers.
I have a furnished tiny-house an hour away from my home that doesn’t have any pet responsibilities. Do you think that sitters would be interested in an arrangement where they could live in the tiny-house without responsibilities most of the time, and pet-sit 1-2 weeks per month? Is there a way to communicate this in the home ad that would make sense, or should I post a multi-month sit and explain if someone applies? Thanks everyone!
Would your pet(s) be happy in the tiny home location with sitter for 1-2 weeks while you’re away? If so, a better idea and more honest and clean is to change your Home profile to the tiny home and all its details. Explain the situation is that for 1 month Housesit (or 2 if still too short to attract apps) the sitter stays at the home and pet sit for only 10 days (or whatever you need). The rest is Housesit no pets. You bring them the pet(s) and pickup the pets. Optional idea: if you want pet(s) delivered picked up, include a car with the sit.
I guess it’s a confusing situation. So the tiny home has no pets and could be a long-term place for just the sitter to have, like his/her own place. The pets would always stay in my home and I would be home taking care of them when not traveling while the sitter is just enjoying the tiny home doing whatever
I’d be interested in what you are suggesting if I were going to be in that part of the world. I think you should try posting it your “arrangement” on THS and see how it goes – adjust it as needed. You can ask for feedback on your post if you include your link on your community profile.
We like the idea too and would be open to it. As @Katie says, where are you based? Probably try posting it as a month (then you know the sitters are free for your dates) and then explain the detail OR “A month’s sit with 2 weeks per care” as your listing title would grab more attention. #liketheconcept
I understood your initial post, just throwing you a suggestion. Sitter would need a car or some sort of transport to get to and from your regular home and pets for your desired arrangement. Let us know what kind of interest you get from if you post your desired plan. Doesn’t hurt to try.
Hi @AllTheFerretsDied It sounds like an opportunity that could really suit someone as a ongoing arrangement if the locations of both places appeal, they fall for your pets, and you are able to build a strong working relationship with them.
Part of this comes down to being transparent from the outset, so consider things like whether you would offer car use, expect contributions towards utilities for longer sits, and make this clear in your listing.
If you’re potentially seeing this as a long-term plan, make sure that you wouldn’t be accidentally creating a tenancy agreement if you, eg. receive payment for utilities on a regular basis, especially if the sitter in question wouldn’t have the ‘right to rent’ or be employed in the country that you live in.
